Awlgrip: The Gold Standard in Marine Coatings

Few names carry as much weight on the water as Awlgrip. Since the brand first introduced its marine coatings in 1973 — originally developed under the ALUMIGRIP name for the aerospace industry — Awlgrip has spent more than five decades perfecting the science of protecting and beautifying vessels of every size. Today, as a flagship brand under the global coatings leader AkzoNobel, Awlgrip is widely recognized as the most trusted name in professional-grade yacht and boat finishes worldwide.

What sets Awlgrip apart comes down to performance where it matters most. Its polyurethane and acrylic urethane formulas are engineered to deliver outstanding resistance to UV radiation, saltwater, chemicals, and abrasion — the very conditions that punish lesser coatings season after season. Whether coating fiberglass, aluminum, wood, or steel, Awlgrip's chemistries bond tenaciously to the substrate and hold their gloss for years, not months. With proper care and maintenance, an Awlgrip finish can retain its brilliance for eight to ten years or more.

At the heart of the Awlgrip system is its legendary lineup of Topside Paints. Found at practically every major port around the globe, Awlgrip topcoats are the most requested topside finish by boat owners and production boat manufacturers alike. The product range spans one-part and two-part systems — including the flagship Awlgrip polyester urethane topcoat, the user-friendly Awlcraft 2000 and 3000 acrylic urethane finishes, and the innovative Awlgrip HDT (High Definition Technology) line, engineered for exceptional hardness and micro-scratch resistance. Each product in the Topside Paint lineup is available in an extensive palette of colors, including custom metallics, to deliver the mirror-like finish Awlgrip has always been known for.

Beyond topcoats, Awlgrip offers a comprehensive range of Specialty Coatings & Paints that address every stage of a professional finishing system. This includes high-build epoxy primers like the renowned 545 Anti-Corrosive Epoxy Primer, wash primers, fairing compounds such as Awlfair, interior and bilge coatings, wood varnishes like Awl-Spar and Awl-Brite, non-skid additives, and maintenance products like AwlCare and AwlWash. Together, these products form a complete coating system that protects vessels from the substrate up.

Whether you are a professional yard manager refinishing a superyacht, an OEM specifying coatings for new builds, or a dedicated boat owner restoring a classic hull, Awlgrip's unmatched combination of technical depth, color breadth, and proven field performance makes it the coating system of choice. With 374 products across the Awlgrip range, finding exactly the right solution for your vessel has never been easier.
