Raritan Engineering

Raritan Engineering: Over Six Decades of Marine Sanitation Excellence

Raritan Engineering Company, Inc. has been setting the standard for marine sanitation and plumbing since 1958. Founded on the patent for the original PH Marine Toilet — a manual head built for the U.S. Navy — the company has grown from a single-product innovator into one of the most trusted names on the water. Today, this family-owned, American-made manufacturer continues to produce a comprehensive lineup of marine sanitation and comfort systems from its facility in Millville, New Jersey.

What separates Raritan from the competition is a relentless focus on real-world reliability, environmental responsibility, and U.S.-built quality. The company's committed workforce averages more than two decades of tenure, and Raritan is known for turning orders around the same day they are received. Critically for boaters, the company stocks repair kits and replacement parts for virtually every product it has ever made — and backs each product with free technical phone support for the life of the product, with an average hold time of under one minute.

A Legacy of Firsts in Marine Sanitation

Raritan's history reads like a timeline of marine sanitation milestones. The Crown Head — introduced in 1966 — was the world's first macerating marine toilet, a design breakthrough that redefined onboard waste management. In 1974, Raritan pioneered the first small onboard waste treatment system, a concept that was later refined into the ElectroScan, a Type I Marine Sanitation Device that became the benchmark against which all others were measured. These innovations underscore why Raritan is a go-to brand for serious boaters who need dependable systems offshore and in environmentally sensitive No Discharge Zones.

Raritan's marine toilets — both manual and electric — span a wide range of models, from the legendary PHII to the premium Marine Elegance series, which features a one-piece china bowl, low water consumption, and a SeaFresh option allowing boaters to switch between freshwater and seawater flushing. These units are compact by design, engineered to fit the sloped hulls and tight quarters common on sailboats and powerboats alike.

Responsible waste management is central to the Raritan ethos. Their holding tanks and waste treatment systems — including the Purasan EX and Type I/II Marine Sanitation Devices — are engineered to comply with the Clean Water Act while minimizing the vessel's environmental footprint. For boaters managing tank chemistry, Raritan's RV and marine holding tank treatments are formulated to break down waste effectively and control odors in a way that is safe for the marine environment.

Comfort aboard a vessel goes beyond sanitation. Raritan's marine water heaters, including the 1700 Series, are built with glass-lined steel tanks for durability and feature a heat exchanger that allows the unit to tap engine heat for efficient hot water production while underway — a genuinely clever dual-mode design. And for vessels where fresh provisions matter, Raritan's marine refrigerators and ice makers, such as the Icerette, bring the same build quality and long-term parts support that boaters expect from the Raritan name.

Why Boaters Trust Raritan Engineering

American-made products assembled in Millville, New Jersey since 1958

Family-owned with an employee base averaging over 22 years of experience

Free lifetime technical phone support for all Raritan products

Same-day or next-day order fulfillment for most products and parts

Environmentally responsible designs built to meet EPA and Clean Water Act standards

Comprehensive parts availability for current and legacy products

Product Details

The Raritan Engineering P102 PH Superflush is a non-macerating manual marine toilet featuring a household-size bowl, built as the latest evolution of the legendary Raritan PHII platform. Engineered for sailboats and small to mid-size powerboats, the P102 delivers superior flushing performance in a universally compatible, easy-to-install package that fits most existing marine head footprints.

High-Capacity Dual-Action Piston Pump

At the heart of the P102 is Raritan's iconic double-action piston pump — a design originally developed for the U.S. Navy in the 1960s. The pump is 66% larger in diameter than competing models, moving significantly more water per stroke and typically clearing the bowl in just 6–10 strokes versus the 12–20 required by standard marine toilets. The dual-action design simultaneously draws in fresh flush water while discharging waste, maximizing efficiency with every pump cycle.

Key Features:

 • Household-size ceramic bowl for maximum comfort aboard
 • Telescoping lever-style handle extends for full pumping leverage and stows compactly when not in use, minimizing intrusion in tight head compartments
 • Proprietary full-size 1-1/2" joker valve engineered to reduce and eliminate clogging
 • 3/4" inlet / 1-1/2" outlet hose connections for flexible plumbing runs
 • Dry flush option — a simple quarter-turn of the inlet water valve allows the bowl to be pumped dry without additional water intake, ideal for use in heavy seas
 • Special front air vent reduces back pressure during dry-flush operation
 • Soft-close seat and lid with integrated locking tabs that hold the seat securely in place while underway
 • Reversible pump and base mounting for right- or left-hand operation
 • Universal bolt pattern matches most competitive toilet models for straightforward drop-in upgrades
 • Replaceable piston shaft seal cartridge for simple field maintenance
 • Installs above or below the waterline
 • Upgradeable to electric operation at a later date without replacing the toilet
 • Engineered polymer pump construction for long-lasting durability in the marine environment
 • Individually assembled and water-tested by hand in Millville, NJ, USA
 • Comprehensive instruction manual included

The P102 PH Superflush accepts sea water, lake water, or fresh water for rinsing and uses a 3/4" intake connection compatible with standard marine plumbing. Its dimensions of approximately 13-1/8" H × 18-1/4" W × 20" D make it a practical fit for a wide range of marine head compartments. Backed by Raritan's industry-leading warranty and decades of proven reliability, the P102 is the gold standard in manual marine toilets.

Thank u so much exact match

The part was advertised as Goodyear but Goodyear sold or divested its interest in Gatorback belts to Continental. The belt I received was a Continental Elite Poly-V Belt which is the same as the Goodyear Gatorback belt. Autoplicity needs to update its website. I contacted Autoplicity after placing the order when I found on another website that Goodyear no longer makes Gatorback and asked what belt I was going to be sent. Justine O, a Senior Production Specialist directed me to the generic Goodyear website which had nothing about Gatorback belts because they no longer make Gatorback belts... thank you Justine O, Senior Production Specialist for absolutely nothing! Bottom line, Autoplicity may, or may not have what you want... but one thing is for certain, their customer service is as useless as every other customer service you have ever dealt with!!!
