Manufacturer

Since 1881, Interlux has established itself as one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-performance marine coatings and yacht finishes. As a division of AkzoNobel, Interlux combines over a century of expertise with cutting-edge coating technology to deliver protection and beauty for vessels of all sizes, from recreational powerboats to racing sailboats and luxury yachts.

Marine Coating Excellence

Interlux's reputation is built on formulating specialized solutions that address the unique challenges of the marine environment. Unlike automotive or general-purpose coatings, marine paints must withstand constant exposure to UV radiation, saltwater, temperature fluctuations, and the physical stresses of wave action. Every product in the Interlux lineup is engineered specifically for marine applications, ensuring vessels receive the protection they need while maintaining a brilliant, professional appearance.

Comprehensive Protection Systems

The Interlux product range covers every aspect of vessel maintenance and refinishing. Their wood finishes and varnishes preserve and enhance natural teak and other marine woods with UV-resistant formulations that withstand harsh sun exposure. For hull and deck applications, topside paints deliver durable, high-gloss finishes that resist chalking and fading season after season.

Below the waterline, protection becomes even more critical. Antifouling paints prevent the growth of barnacles, weeds, and slime that can degrade hull performance and increase fuel consumption. For competitive sailors, racing bottom paints are formulated to maintain smooth, low-friction surfaces that maximize speed through the water.

Proper surface preparation is essential for long-lasting results, which is why Interlux offers a complete line of primers and sealers that ensure optimal adhesion, prevent corrosion, and create the ideal foundation for topcoats. These barrier coats and anti-corrosive primers are critical for protecting fiberglass, wood, and metal surfaces from water absorption and galvanic corrosion.

Innovation and Performance

Interlux continues to advance marine coating technology with innovative formulations. Products like Brightside polyurethane enamel and two-part Perfection paint deliver durable, high-gloss finishes, while ablative bottom paints use self-polishing technology that continuously renews the active surface. Whether refinishing a classic wooden yacht or maintaining a modern performance cruiser, Interlux provides the coating solutions that professional boatyards and knowledgeable boat owners trust for exceptional results.

The Interlux Interstain Y42/PT is a dual-purpose paste wood filler and stain in a rich Brown Mahogany color, engineered specifically for marine brightwork and fine woodworking. Unlike standard wood stains, Interstain simultaneously fills open wood grain and delivers deep, penetrating color in a single application — reducing the number of topcoat varnish layers required and giving you a smoother, more professional finish.
Its fade-resistant, penetrating formula makes it suitable for both interior wood surfaces and exterior above-waterline applications, making it a versatile choice for boat decks, trim, cabin woodwork, and general brightwork restoration.
Key Features:
Application Notes: Interstain ships as a thick paste and must be thinned with Interlux 333 Brushing Liquid to the consistency of thick house paint before use. For bare wood, sand with 80-grit paper to ensure proper penetration — avoid finer grits, which can seal the wood surface and inhibit absorption. Allow Interstain to dry completely before overcoating with varnish; apply 3 or more coats of Interlux varnish over the cured filler stain for best results.
