About Dexter Marine Products

Dexter has been a cornerstone of the trailer components industry since 1960, earning a reputation as one of the most trusted names in axles, brakes, suspension, and related hardware. Headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana, Dexter employs more than 3,800 skilled professionals across the United States and Canada, operating facilities dedicated to engineering, manufacturing, and rigorously testing every product they produce.

Dexter Marine Products occupies a unique position in the market: while the parent Dexter brand serves a broad spectrum of industries — utility trailers, RVs, heavy-duty commercial vehicles, agriculture, and manufactured housing — the DexMarine line is purpose-built for the demanding world of boat trailers and watercraft transport. Dexter's marine-focused components are engineered to withstand the corrosive effects of saltwater and freshwater submersion that would quickly degrade lesser parts.

Why Dexter Stands Apart

Dexter is widely recognized as a world leader in developing and producing safe, reliable trailer components. Their in-house laboratory performs rigorous stress, fatigue, and metallurgical evaluations, while computer-equipped test vehicles analyze real-world product performance. This commitment to quality is reflected in every axle, actuator, brake, and hub that leaves a Dexter facility.

The product lineup covers an impressive range of needs. Torflex® torsion axles offer independent wheel movement and progressive torque action for a smoother, quieter ride — a major benefit when transporting boats over rough roads or boat ramps. Sprung axles utilize double-eye and slipper spring configurations and can be mounted in underslung or overslung arrangements. For braking, Dexter's legendary Nev-R-Adjust® brakes are a go-to choice for boaters who need reliable, maintenance-friendly stopping power.

The DexMarine hydraulic brake actuator lineup — including the DX8.0, DX12.5, and DX20EX models — handles capacities up to 20,000 lbs., giving boat trailer owners confidence whether they're launching a small fishing boat or a full-size yacht. Hub and drum assemblies, wheel bearings, seals, and suspension components round out the portfolio, ensuring that every critical point of contact between trailer and road can be equipped with a genuine Dexter part.

Serving Every Trailering Application

Beyond the marine world, Dexter's product ecosystem extends into cargo trailers, utility trailers, recreational vehicles, and heavy-duty commercial applications. With over 50 distribution branches and 350 distributor partners across North America, finding the right replacement component is straightforward for dealers and do-it-yourself enthusiasts alike. All products are manufactured in an ISO 9001:2015 certified environment and backed by Dexter's Genuine Limited Warranty, underscoring the brand's commitment to long-term reliability.

Whether you're building a new boat trailer from scratch, performing seasonal maintenance on an existing rig, or upgrading to a higher-capacity braking system, Dexter Marine Products provides the engineered solutions that professionals and passionate boaters rely on every season.

Product Details

The Dexter K68-539-00 is a reverse lockout solenoid designed for trailer disc brake actuators, enabling automatic free backing operation when reversing. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes generate full braking power in reverse, making this solenoid essential for actuators without a built-in reverse lockout lever or switch.

Key Features:

 • Flow blocking style solenoid valve for older model disc brake actuators
 • 12-volt operation connects directly to tow vehicle backup light circuit
 • Automatic brake lockout eliminates manual switching
 • Thread size: 3/16" inverted flare (IF) x 1/8" male pipe (MP)
 • Compatible with both disc and drum brake systems
 • Can be wired independently or adapted to trailer wire harness with 5-flat plug

This solenoid installs at the actuator before the disc brake installation and requires only one electrical connection between the solenoid and the vehicle's backup light. When the vehicle shifts into reverse, the solenoid automatically allows the trailer to freewheel, providing convenient operation without leaving the cab. Also known as Tie Down Engineering part number 81103.
