Sierra 18-5288-1 Hi-Performance Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit for Prestolite V-8 Distributors

The Sierra 18-5288-1 Hi-Performance Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit (Ignitor II) is a direct replacement for points-and-condenser systems in most Prestolite V-8 distributors with a snap-down cap. Engineered for marine applications, this solid-state electronic ignition upgrade delivers dramatically improved spark energy, timing stability, and overall engine performance across the full RPM range.

Key Features:

• Senses current levels in the coil and automatically adjusts dwell to maintain peak ignition energy throughout the entire RPM range
• Develops, on average, 4 times more available energy between 3,000 and 5,000 RPM compared to standard point-type ignition systems
• Delivers, on average, twice the plug voltage of conventional points-based systems
• Microcontroller-based variable dwell technology ensures more stable and precise timing
• Ignition energy is sustained and coil life is extended when peak current level is reached prior to spark
• Coil resistance: 0.6 Ohms
• Fits most Prestolite V-8 distributors with snap-down cap

For optimum performance, use in conjunction with the Sierra 18-5472 "Flame Thrower II" Coil, which features ultra-low resistance (0.6 Ohms) and up to 45,000 volts output. This kit is the high-performance version of Sierra's Electronic Conversion Kit line and is designed as a true solid-state ignition replacement, eliminating the maintenance and reliability issues associated with mechanical points and condensers.
