Airmar Technology Corporation: Leaders in Marine Sensing

Airmar Technology Corporation has been at the forefront of acoustic and ultrasonic sensing since its founding in 1982 in Milford, New Hampshire. Over more than four decades, the company has grown from a single-product transducer manufacturer into the world's leading designer and maker of high-performance marine sensing technology — earning a reputation for precision, durability, and innovation across recreational, commercial, scientific, and military applications.

At the core of Airmar's identity is a deep expertise in ultrasonic technology. As one of the company's directors famously put it, Airmar doesn't build marine electronics — it builds high-end "speakers." That philosophy has made Airmar the trusted OEM partner behind the transducer technology found inside some of the biggest names in marine electronics. From sport fishing to offshore surveying, Airmar products are engineered to deliver reliable, high-resolution data whether you're chasing gamefish in shallow freshwater or conducting hydrographic surveys at depth.

Marine Transducers for Every Application

Airmar's lineup of marine transducers spans everything from entry-level transom-mount sensors to professional-grade CHIRP thru-hull transducers capable of reading extraordinary depths. Their CHIRP-ready transducers operate across low, medium, high, and high-wide frequency bands, providing anglers and mariners with exceptional target separation, bottom detail, and depth performance. Crucially, Airmar's "Mix & Match" cable system means a single transducer body can be paired with brand-specific adapter cables — making it easy to upgrade your electronics without swapping out the transducer itself.

Airmar transducers are engineered to work seamlessly with leading marine electronics platforms. Their Raymarine-compatible transducers and accessories are a popular choice for Axiom and other Raymarine multifunction display users who want industry-leading sonar performance. Likewise, Airmar's Humminbird-compatible transducers, cables, and accessories — including dedicated 9-pin and 14-pin connector variants — integrate directly with Helix, SOLIX, and APEX fish finders for plug-and-play CHIRP capability.

WeatherStation Instruments

Beyond transducers, Airmar is renowned for its WeatherStation® instruments — all-in-one ultrasonic weather sensors that consolidate multiple measurement capabilities into a single compact, rugged housing. Using proprietary ultrasonic technology with no moving parts, these instruments measure wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and rainfall simultaneously. Because they rely on ultrasound rather than mechanical anemometers, they are immune to bearing wear and unaffected by salt, dirt, and marine fouling — making them exceptionally reliable in harsh environments.

WeatherStation instruments are deployed worldwide on fixed marine platforms, unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), research vessels, and land-based weather monitoring stations. They are trusted by organizations ranging from recreational boaters to national oceanographic centers.

Quality and Warranty

Airmar's commitment to quality is reflected in its manufacturing process — largely hands-on and craftsmanship-driven — and in its warranty program. As of 2025, Airmar extended its standard product warranty to three years across its full lineup, including transducers and sensors. Installers who are Airmar Certified Installers (ACIs) can offer customers an exclusive extended warranty on qualifying transducers, reinforcing the brand's long-term support philosophy.

Airmar DT812PV-235-N2 AIRMAR DT800 PLASTIC THRU 12 DEGREE TILT NMEA2000

DT812PV-235-N2 - 235kHz - Plastic Thru Hull Smart Sensor - 12° Tilt - NMEA 2000 - 6M Cable

Airmar has taken its proven Tilted Element™ and broadband technologies and applied them to its leading line of Smart™ Sensors. The DT800 is a low-profile, retractable, thru-hull sensor that computes accurate depth and temperature data and sends it to any NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000® display. The DT800 operates at a frequency of 235 kHz and can run simultaneously with other Airmar 50/200 kHz transducers on-board with no interference. The broadband ceramic delivers depth readings to 183 m (600'), as well as accurate shallow-water readings in as little as 500 mm (1.6'). Available in fixed 0°, 12°, or 20° tilt, the DT800 is perfect for power and sailboat applications. It is sold with a choice of rugged housings— plastic, bronze, or stainless steel—to accommodate any vessel type or hull material. These low-profile housings do not affect hull performance and will provide accurate readings at high speeds.

Airmar's Smart™ Sensors have embedded microelectronics—the transducer element and signal processor are only millimeters apart. The signal from the depth transducer is processed right inside the sensor itself. All that is needed to receive depth and temperature data is a single cable into a compatible device or display. Because the ceramic is tilted inside the housing, the transducer beam is oriented straight down, resulting in strong bottom echo returns and accurate depth readings. The retractable housing with a self-closing valve reduces water flow into the vessel when the transducer is removed for cleaning.
