The Coleman 1497-9021 is a PTCR (Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor) start device designed as a replacement component for Coleman-Mach RV air conditioner systems. This solid-state relay provides reliable compressor starting assistance without the mechanical complexity of traditional relays.
How It Works:
The PTCR start device functions as a thermistor-based relay that assists with compressor motor startup. When power is applied, the device initially has very low resistance, allowing a surge of current to flow through the start winding to help the compressor motor overcome initial inertia. Within less than half a second, the device rapidly heats up and its resistance increases dramatically, effectively removing itself from the circuit once the compressor is running. This design eliminates the need for mechanical contacts, coils, or moving parts, resulting in a more reliable and maintenance-free starting solution.
Key Features:
- Solid-state design with no moving parts for enhanced reliability
- Works in conjunction with start capacitor to provide starting torque
- Self-resetting after cool-down period
- Direct replacement for original Coleman equipment
- Easy troubleshooting with simple continuity testing
Compatibility:
This PTCR start device is compatible with a wide range of Coleman-Mach air conditioner models, including: 46413, 48203, 48204, 48207, 48208, 48213, 48253, 48254, 48257, 48263, 48264, 48268, 6633, 6636, 7333, 7633, 8333, 8335, 8433, 8534, 8535, 8632, 8633, 9013, 9021, 9031, 9201, 9202, 9232, 6799, 46515, 48004, 48008, 48014, 48058, 48064, 48068, 6535, 6537, 9001, 9002, 9003, 9014, 9022, 9023, 9024, 9032, 9033, and 9034 model air conditioners.
Important Notes:
This device is sold separately without a capacitor. For a complete hard start kit including both the PTCR device and capacitor, refer to Coleman kit 8333A9021. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper electrical connections and system safety.
