Viega: Redefining the Art of Pipe Connection

Few names carry as much weight in the world of modern plumbing as Viega. Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, Viega LLC brought press-fitting technology to North America in 1999 — and has been pushing the industry forward ever since. Backed by a global heritage stretching back to 1899, Viega combines over a century of engineering expertise with relentlessly innovative design, making it the go-to brand for contractors and engineers working in residential, commercial, industrial, and marine environments.

The Press Technology Advantage

What sets Viega apart is a fundamental rethinking of how pipe joints are made. Traditional methods rely on soldering, threading, or welding — processes that require open flames, toxic flux, and significant labor time. Viega's press systems eliminate all of that. Viega pipe fittings use a cold-press method in which a calibrated tool crimps the fitting around the pipe in seconds, creating a permanent, leak-proof joint without any flame, heavy equipment, or system shutdown. The result is faster installations, safer jobsites, and consistently reliable connections every time.

At the heart of this technology is Viega's patented Smart Connect® technology — the only system in the industry that detects unpressed connections 100% of the time during pressure testing, giving installers complete confidence before a system goes live.

Viega's Core Systems

Viega organizes its lineup around three flagship systems, each engineered for specific materials and applications:

Viega ProPress® — The industry's most widely approved press-fitting system for copper and stainless steel pipe. ProPress connections can be made wet or dry in seven seconds or less, across more than 2,500 approved applications. It is approved to more codes and standards than any competing press system, including IPC, UPC, and NSF.

Viega MegaPress® — The first press-fitting system designed for carbon and stainless steel pipe, covering sizes from 1/2" to 4". MegaPress is a trusted solution for gas, hydronic heating and cooling, compressed air, fire protection, and industrial piping — all without messy cutting oils, exposed threads, or hot work.

Viega PureFlow® — A complete PEX-based potable water system featuring press fittings, valves, distribution manifolds, and tubing. PureFlow is the only PEX press system with Smart Connect technology, and its press-to-press transition fittings allow seamless connections from PEX to copper with a single tool.

Built for the Toughest Environments

Viega's reach extends well beyond standard residential plumbing. In marine applications, Viega stands as the only press-fitting manufacturer with NAVSEA approval — meaning its fittings and valves are trusted aboard U.S. Navy vessels. The MegaPress CuNi system, crafted from copper-nickel alloy, is specifically engineered for the punishing conditions of marine environments, including cooling water, fuel lines, and fire suppression systems. Industrial users benefit from specialized variants like MegaPress 316 stainless steel, which handles everything from potable water to acids and chemical cleaning agents.

Why Professionals Choose Viega

Beyond the products themselves, Viega invests heavily in training, engineering support, and code compliance. The company has worked to get press technology written into more industry codes than any other manufacturer, and offers in-person training, live video workshops, and on-demand accredited courses to help installers master their systems. With manufacturing and distribution operations on U.S. soil and an ISO 9001 certified facility, Viega's commitment to quality is built into every fitting, valve, and length of tubing they produce.

The Viega MegaPress 316 FKM 3/4" 90 Degree Elbow delivers fast, reliable press connections for stainless steel piping systems without the need for welding, threading, or soldering. Engineered with premium 316 stainless steel construction, this elbow provides superior corrosion resistance for demanding applications including hydronic systems, compressed air, industrial gases, marine environments, and fire protection installations.

This press fitting features Smart Connect Technology and is designed for use with Schedule 5 through Schedule 40 stainless steel pipe. The FKM (fluoroelastomer) sealing element provides exceptional chemical resistance and temperature performance, making it ideal for applications involving oils, fuels, and aggressive chemicals where standard EPDM seals may not be suitable.

Key Features:

 • 316 stainless steel body with NSF-61 potable water rating
 • FKM sealing element for superior chemical and temperature resistance
 • Compatible with Schedule 5 to Schedule 40 stainless steel pipe
 • 420 stainless steel grip ring and 304 stainless steel separator ring
 • Press connection eliminates hot work and reduces installation time
 • Temperature range: 14°F to 284°F
 • Pressure rating: 200 PSI
 • Center-to-end dimension: 1.32 inches
 • End-to-end length: 2.52 inches

Viega MegaPress fittings meet rigorous industry standards including ASTM A312, ANSI/CAN/UL 213, NFPA 13/13D/13R, and USCG approval. Installation requires Viega pressing tools with appropriate jaw sets for secure, leak-free connections. The press connection method significantly reduces labor costs and system downtime compared to traditional joining methods.

My complaint involves shipping. One of the reasons I ordered was because you offered 2nd day air. I paid an additional amount for this approximately $20.00 and yet it came ground. I placed the order on a Saturday, they didn't ship until Tuesday, and didn't arrive until Sunday. It appears I paid for 2nd day air and was given ground. I would appreciate a refund for the difference.
