About Interlux Paint

Interlux has been at the forefront of marine coating technology since its founding in 1881. Interlux is a division of AkzoNobel, one of the world's most respected paint and coatings companies, and has grown into one of the largest manufacturers of high-performance boat paint, yacht coatings, and marine protection products on the planet. For boaters, boatyard professionals, and yacht builders alike, the Interlux name carries more than a century of earned credibility.

A Legacy Built on Science and the Sea

What sets Interlux apart from the competition is its unwavering commitment to research and development. Formulations are developed in dedicated marine labs and tested under real-world conditions on the water, ensuring that every product lives up to the punishing demands of saltwater, UV exposure, and marine fouling. The result is a lineup of coatings that professional shipwrights and weekend boaters trust equally — whether they're maintaining a coastal cruiser or racing a high-performance sailboat.

Interlux offers solutions for virtually every surface on a vessel, both above and below the waterline. Their antifouling bottom paints, such as the ablative Micron CSC and the versatile Trilux 33, are engineered to prevent the buildup of barnacles, weeds, and slime while minimizing environmental impact. Above the waterline, topside coatings like the one-part Brightside polyurethane enamel and the two-part Perfection finish deliver brilliant, long-lasting gloss with strong resistance to UV degradation.

Wood Finishes and Varnish

Among Interlux's most celebrated product lines is their range of Wood Finishes & Varnish. Wooden trim, teak decking, and brightwork are defining features of many classic and modern vessels, and protecting that wood from the relentless assault of sun, salt, and moisture is a challenge every boat owner knows well. Interlux's varnish lineup — including the iconic Schooner, the low-luster Goldspar Satin, and the Cetol Marine system — gives boaters a full spectrum of options from deep, traditional amber gloss to a more satin, natural-teak appearance. These products incorporate UV-absorbing technology and premium resins designed specifically for the marine environment, where ordinary wood finishes simply won't hold up.

Complete System Thinking

One of the most practical advantages of working with Interlux is that their products are formulated as a complete system. Primers, barrier coats, topcoats, varnishes, thinners, and solvents are all designed to work together, reducing the guesswork around compatibility and ensuring the best possible adhesion and durability. Whether you're doing a full repaint or touching up brightwork before the season, Interlux provides the right foundation-to-finish solution.

Marine-grade antifouling paints for fiberglass, wood, and metal hulls

High-gloss and satin topside coatings for above-waterline surfaces

Premium wood finishes and yacht varnishes including Schooner, Goldspar, and Cetol Marine

Epoxy barrier coats and specialty primers

Bilge paints, non-skid deck coatings, and thinners/solvents

For anyone serious about protecting and beautifying their vessel, Interlux Paint remains the benchmark standard in marine coatings — a brand whose products are proven in the world's most demanding waters.

Product Details

Interlux Primocon is a one-part anti-corrosive primer specifically designed for underwater metal and non-metal surfaces including boat hulls, running gear, and lower units of outboards and inboard/outboard drives. This professional-grade primer provides an excellent barrier to reduce pitting caused by galvanic corrosion.

Key Features:

 • Suitable for use on aluminum, lead, steel, and cast iron underwater surfaces
 • Excellent primer for antifouling paint over sanded fiberglass that won't affect antifouling paint color
 • Can be used as a conversion coating over unknown well-adhered antifouling paint to prevent cracking
 • Quick-dry formulation allows application of multiple coats in one day
 • Coverage of approximately 300 square feet per gallon by brush (75 sq ft per quart)
 • Matte gray finish provides excellent base for topcoats

This quart-size container is ideal for smaller projects, touch-ups, or maintenance work on outdrives and underwater metal components. Recommended application is 5 coats on steel and aluminum (6 if riveted), 4 coats on bare wood, and 1 coat on fiberglass.
