Collinite: Eight Decades of No-Nonsense Surface Protection

Some brands are built on advertising budgets. Collinite was built on something harder to manufacture: results. Founded in 1936 by Charles H. Collins in Utica, New York, the company traces its roots to the depths of the Great Depression, when Collins — a former automotive parts representative — grew frustrated with car care products that prioritized marketing over performance. Armed with little more than a collection of chemistry textbooks and an unwavering belief that quality should speak for itself, he began developing his own formulas from scratch. The name "Collinite" was a natural choice — a product line as personal as a signature.

Collins recognized early on that consumers deserved protection products that actually lasted. Working alongside his son Chuck, he crafted a line of polishes and waxes with a carnauba-polymer foundation that quickly set a new standard. Today, the company remains headquartered in Utica, NY, operated by a second generation of stewards who have preserved that founding philosophy: do it the right way, with your hands on the product and your feet on the ground.

The Science Behind the Shine

At the core of every Collinite formula is Grade #1 Brazilian carnauba wax, blended with industry-leading polymers to achieve both deep gloss and long-lasting protection. This carnauba-polymer combination is what makes Collinite products so distinctly versatile — effective on automotive paint, fiberglass hulls, metal surfaces, vinyl, and even aircraft. The brand does not chase trends; instead, it refines and defends formulas that have earned loyal followings across generations of detailers.

The flagship No. 845 Liquid Insulator Wax — originally developed for the electrical maintenance industry — has become one of the most discussed products in the detailing community, renowned for its ease of application, versatile compatibility, and exceptional durability. Alongside it, the No. 476S Super Doublecoat paste wax is widely regarded as a go-to choice for all-season and winter protection, while the No. 915 Marque D'Elegance caters to those chasing a premium carnauba depth on darker finishes. For marine use, the No. 885 Fleetwax paste has been proven to hold up through full boating seasons even in sub-tropical saltwater conditions.

A Reputation Built Without Advertising

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Collinite's story is how the brand grew its global footprint. With products now distributed in over 65 countries, Collinite has achieved international reach almost entirely through word of mouth. The brand invests minimally in traditional marketing, preferring instead to let satisfied customers — professional detailers, boat owners, fleet managers, and everyday car enthusiasts — carry the message. That organic reputation is a testament to genuine performance.

Collinite's lineup spans automotive and marine waxes, polishes, pre-wax cleaners, and specialty detailing products — every one made in the United States, every one built to the standards that Charles H. Collins established nearly ninety years ago. For those who understand the difference between spectacle and performance, Collinite remains the quiet answer.

Product Details

Collinite's award-winning No. 870 Marine Fiberglass Fleetwax is a professional-grade, single-step cleaner-wax designed for fleet applications where both performance and efficiency matter. This versatile formula removes film, light oxidation, discoloration, and stubborn stains from fiberglass surfaces while simultaneously applying a durable protective coating. The result is a radiant, high-gloss finish that shields against UV rays, salt spray, and harsh marine weather conditions for 2-3 months.

Key Features:

 • Single-step formula combines cleaning and waxing to save time and labor
 • Removes tough stains and oxidation that regular washing cannot eliminate
 • Provides 2-3 months of durable weather protection
 • Can be applied by hand, dual action polisher, or rotary buffer
 • Average coverage: 500-1,000 square feet per 64 oz container
 • Safe for all fiberglass marine surfaces
 • Excellent as a pre-treatment before applying final-step carnauba waxes

Hand Application: Apply a nickel-sized amount to an applicator pad and work into a 2×2 ft section using firm pressure. Rub until just before the product begins to dry, then buff off with a clean microfiber towel to reveal a deeper, more reflective shine.

Machine Application: Place five pea-sized dots onto your buffing pad and work at 5800 OPM with firm pressure over a 2×2 ft section. Make 2-3 passes, then reduce speed to 4800 OPM for 2-3 additional passes with lighter pressure. Buff until just before dry and remove residue with a microfiber towel.

Ideal for boat owners, detailers, and marine fleet managers who demand professional results without the multi-step process. Each 64 oz container is sold individually.
