The NewMar ERC-12-15 Emergency Relay/Charger ensures uninterrupted power to critical communications equipment by automatically switching to battery backup when AC power is lost or the primary power supply fails. This intelligent device also functions as a trickle battery charger, maintaining your standby battery at optimal charge levels without any modifications to your existing power supply.
Automatic Backup Power Protection:
When the ERC-12-15 detects a loss of DC voltage from the primary power supply, it employs a fast-acting S.P.D.T. relay to instantly switch your equipment's DC input to a standby battery, ensuring continuous operation. Once the power supply is restored, the relay automatically disengages the battery and returns to normal operation. During standard operation, a small portion of the output current is directed to the battery for trickle charging, maintaining the battery at approximately 0.7 volts below the power supply voltage.
Key Features:
- Automatic switchover to battery backup during power loss or supply failure
- Built-in trickle charger maintains standby battery at full charge
- Fast-acting S.P.D.T. relay for seamless transition
- 10 amp continuous / 15 amp intermittent relay rating
- Compact design with flexible mounting options
- Isolated inputs and outputs for safe metal surface mounting
- Includes yellow plastic terminal covers for safety
- Supplied with crimp ring lug connectors
Installation Notes:
Mount the ERC-12-15 as close to the battery as possible in any orientation (vertical, horizontal, or inverted) without affecting performance. Use #10 sheet metal or wood screws for mounting. Do not install in unventilated battery enclosures or areas where explosive gases may be present. Wire gauge requirements vary based on total run length: #14 AWG for 5 ft., #12 AWG for 10 ft., and #10 AWG for 15-20 ft. runs.
Important: If the power supply is down for an extended period and the battery becomes significantly discharged, the trickle charge rate may be insufficient for timely restoration. A supplemental charger may be necessary to bring the battery back to full charge.
