The NGK 8196 Iridium IX spark plug (NGK part number DCPR6EIX) is a resistor-type iridium spark plug made for modified and high-performance engines. It also works as an upgrade over standard nickel-alloy plugs. A fine-wire iridium center electrode helps the plug deliver crisp throttle response and consistent ignition.

  • Iridium center electrode: The tip is much smaller than a platinum or conventional nickel electrode. This lowers the voltage the ignition system needs and helps extend ignition system life.
  • Tapered-cut ground electrode: The reduced-quenching design improves ignitability, acceleration and fuel efficiency.
  • Trivalent metal plating: The shell plating resists corrosion and seizing, which makes installation and removal easier.
  • Resistor design: About 5k ohms of resistance helps suppress radio-frequency interference.
