Taylor Made Mooring Whips
Taylor Made Mooring Whips: A Century of Dockside Protection
Taylor Made has been a trusted name in marine accessories since 1908, and their lineup of mooring whips reflects more than a century of engineering know-how applied to one of boating's most practical problems: keeping your vessel safely away from the dock. Taylor Made mooring whips pull your boat a safe, convenient distance away from the dock, protecting it from damaging waves, wind, tides, and wakes. Whether you're tied up in a busy marina or riding out weather at a private slip, the right mooring whip system is essential protection for your hull and gelcoat.
Three Distinct Product Lines for Every Application
Taylor Made offers three main mooring whip lines, each engineered for specific boat sizes, water conditions, and dock environments.
- Standard Mooring Whips: These whips are equipped with fixed-angle bases with a 60°, 13/16" diameter fiberglass pole and are most commonly used for ski boats, runabouts, center consoles, and bass boats. They are designed for fresh or saltwater use and moderate wake areas, and are available in fixed-angle bases of 8', 12', 14', and 16' for boat sizes up to 20' to 33' and up to 20,000 lbs.
- Premium Mooring Whips: Premium Mooring Whips are equipped with unique rocker arm bases that return the whip poles to the vertical position when not in use and feature 1" diameter fiberglass poles. These are ideal for sailboats and larger, heavier, or high-profile boats, and are designed for saltwater use and large tidal areas. They are available in rocker arm bases of 14', 16', and 18' for boats up to 33' to 56' and up to 48,000 lbs.
- Boatguard® Mooring Whips: Taylor Made uses a large 3/4" diameter, solid fiberglass pole that withstands rugged environments and provides spring action to keep your boat safely away from the dock. The CAD-designed whip base is injection molded from high-impact reinforced plastic. This is an economical mooring whip solution for low-wake, non-tidal areas, sold in pairs with all lines and hardware for complete installation.
What Sets Taylor Made Mooring Whips Apart
These whips, crafted from heavy-duty solid fiberglass, keep your boat away from the dock by applying continuously variable pressure — a critical design characteristic that allows the system to flex and absorb energy rather than transmitting shock loads to the dock or hull. The poles are constructed from high-quality tapered fiberglass which provides increased strength and reflex action as the boat nears the dock, and "Ez-Board" Roller Tips allow your boat to return to the dock effortlessly when you want to board.
Each whip rod incorporates a low-friction tip and whip cleat for easy retrieval for boarding. The fiberglass poles, aluminum-magnesium base units, tips, and mooring whip lines are sold in pairs and come with installation hardware. That means you get a complete, ready-to-install system without hunting for separate components.
From the first custom canvas piece created in 1908 by Nelson Taylor, Taylor Made has been setting the standard for design and product excellence in boat fenders, buoys, dock products, and a wide variety of other boating accessories. That legacy of craftsmanship carries through every mooring whip they produce — from the entry-level Boatguard® to the heavy-duty Premium line built for blue-water sailboats and large yachts.
