Some items are not auto specific but when you enter the auto info it does not let you purchase the item

I received an email with a coupon code, that made my decide to purchase the item Allan left in my shopping cart. I entered the code and it said it wasn't able to use it for my order. I thought it was because at that point i had only got a estimate for shipping which was $8.00. When i put in my shipping address the shipping went up to $10.05. I thought then I would be able to add the coupon code but then it was too late. What a scam.
