The Teleflex AR4502 SmartStick is a new-generation rudder reference unit designed for outboard autopilot installations using SeaStar hydraulic steering systems. This advanced sensor mounts directly to SeaStar front mount hydraulic cylinders and delivers precise, reliable tiller position feedback to compatible autopilot systems via a generic 0.5V–4.5V analog output.

Unlike traditional mechanical feedback units, the AR4502 uses non-contact, magnetostrictive linear position sensing technology — meaning there are no moving parts to wear out over time. All electronics are fully potted for corrosion resistance, and the housing features a rust-resistant anodized finish engineered to withstand the harsh marine environment.

The AR4502 replaces the previous-generation AR4102 and AR4202 rudder reference units. With electronics integrated directly into the sensor body, there is no need for an external black box, simplifying cable routing through rigging with no splicing required. The included 35-foot cable can be trimmed to any desired length, and the jacket is labeled for easy identification during installation.

The AR4502 is the generic-output version of the SmartStick family, suitable for autopilot brands and systems that accept a standard 0.5V–4.5V position signal.
