Ocean Signal: Engineered for When It Matters Most

When an emergency strikes at sea, the equipment on board can mean the difference between life and death. Ocean Signal is a globally recognized manufacturer of electronic marine safety devices, specializing in the technology that connects distressed mariners to search and rescue services anywhere on the planet. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Margate, England, the brand has built its reputation on a single, unwavering principle: reliable, accurate distress signaling when it counts most.

Ocean Signal's core expertise lies in EPIRBs and locating beacons — devices that transmit emergency distress signals via the international Cospas-Sarsat satellite network to rescue coordination centers around the world. Their flagship rescueME product line spans Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs), Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs), Man Overboard (MOB) beacons, AIS (Automatic Identification System) devices, and Search and Rescue Transponders (SARTs). Whether you are an offshore racing sailor, a commercial fisherman, or a weekend cruiser, Ocean Signal offers a safety solution scaled to your needs.

What sets Ocean Signal apart in the crowded marine safety market is its commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology in compact, user-friendly form factors. Their next-generation EPIRB3, for example, combines Cospas-Sarsat 406 MHz satellite connectivity with integrated AIS and Return Link Service (RLS) — providing both global distress alerting and real-time confirmation that a signal has been received, all in one unit. The rescueME PLB line is among the most compact on the market while still delivering full GPS-enabled positioning and 24+ hours of transmission time.

In 2015, Ocean Signal was acquired by ACR Electronics, a Florida-based industry leader in survival technology. This union brought together two elite engineering teams and further strengthened Ocean Signal's capacity for product innovation — while maintaining the brand's distinctly British engineering identity. Today, Ocean Signal devices are internationally approved, IMO/SOLAS compliant where applicable, and trusted by professional mariners, lifeboat crews, and adventurers worldwide.

Explore Ocean Signal's range of emergency locating beacons and find the right device for your vessel and voyage. From manual Category II EPIRBs for coastal passages to automatic float-free Category I units for offshore blue-water sailing, the rescueME lineup offers proven protection across every type of maritime adventure.

Why Choose Ocean Signal?

Trusted globally by professional mariners, lifeboat crews, and offshore adventurers

Devices use multi-constellation GNSS for fast, highly accurate position fixes

Latest models feature AIS and Return Link Service for layered, real-time emergency response

Compact, waterproof, and impact-resistant construction built for harsh marine environments

IMO/SOLAS compliant EPIRBs with no subscription fees required

Extended warranty available through product registration

Product Details

The Ocean Signal SafeSea S100 is a dedicated Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) designed to assist in the rescue and recovery of liferafts and survival craft. Compliant with IMO SOLAS regulations, this X-Band radar transponder remains in standby mode until automatically activated by a radar sweep from any vessel in the vicinity, then transmits a series of pulses displayed on the ship's radar as a line of dots, providing a precise bearing to the survival craft.

Key Features:

 • Superior battery life maintaining performance even at -20°C
 • User-replaceable, non-hazardous battery with five-year replacement interval
 • Compact size optimized for easy liferaft packing and storage
 • Supplied complete with telescopic pole and storage bracket
 • Activation controls identical to SafeSea E100 EPIRB for simplified operation
 • Meets IMO SOLAS carriage requirements for international voyages

Carriage Requirements:

 • Required on all IMO SOLAS vessels on international voyages: one SART for 300-500 GRT vessels, two for vessels over 500 GRT
 • One SART per every four liferafts on ro-ro passenger vessels
 • Required for most super and mega yachts, especially those covered by MCA code of practice
 • Mandated for nationally regulated vessels including fishing vessels, passenger craft, and commercial workboats

The SafeSea S100 SART provides critical visibility for search and rescue operations, ensuring faster location and recovery of survival craft in emergency situations.
