Boss Audio Systems has built its reputation on bringing current head-unit features to a wide range of drivers. Its stereo lineup spans simple single-DIN Bluetooth receivers, large-format touchscreens with smartphone integration, and specialty units designed for motorcycles and RVs. If you are replacing a factory radio or upgrading an older aftermarket unit, this brand offers a clear path from basic to feature-rich.
Elite Series Touchscreen Receivers
The Elite Series is where Boss concentrates its most modern stereo technology. Models such as the BE7ACP pair Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a double-DIN 7-inch touchscreen. The BE62CP adds Apple CarPlay to a 6.2-inch capacitive display. Larger single-DIN designs offer more screen without a dash cutout. The BE9ACP, for example, offers a single-DIN fit with double-DIN adapter brackets included, and supports high-resolution FLAC playback and RGB illumination. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto appear on units like the BECPA9W, which also includes a push-to-talk connection to your smartphone's voice assistant.
Core Features Across the Range
Across the Elite touchscreen models, you will commonly find:
- Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music control
- Inputs for USB, SD, A/V, rear camera, and steering wheel controls (the steering wheel interface is sold separately)
- Front, rear, and subwoofer pre-amp outputs for adding an amplifier
- Bass, treble, balance, and fader controls with preset equalizer settings
Some Elite models still include an optical drive for drivers with CD or DVD collections. The BV755BLC, for instance, is a 6.2-inch double-DIN receiver that plays CD, DVD, MP3, USB, and SD media, and it is offered with a backup camera. Mechless models skip the disc drive, which makes them a good fit when you stream or play from USB and SD.
Single-DIN Bluetooth Receivers
Not every build needs a big screen. The 595BRGB is a single-DIN unit with Bluetooth audio and calling, an AM/FM tuner, a CD player, aux-in, and USB. Compact receivers like these suit older vehicles, work trucks, and budget upgrades where dash space is limited. They typically offer pre-amp outputs, so you can add an amplifier later.
Specialty Stereos for RVs and Motorcycles
Boss also makes stereos for specific applications. Its catalog includes the BEHDIN98 digital media receiver for Harley-Davidson models from 1998 to 2013, and the BV6860BH RV receiver with dual-zone control and HDMI pass-thru. These models are useful if a standard car head unit will not fit or meet your needs.
Choosing a Boss Stereo
- Dash size: Confirm whether your vehicle takes a single-DIN or double-DIN opening before picking a screen size.
- Smartphone integration: Choose wired or wireless CarPlay and Android Auto if you rely on navigation and voice commands.
- Media format: Decide whether you still need a disc drive, or whether USB, SD, and Bluetooth streaming cover your needs.
- Expansion: Look at the number of pre-amp outputs if you plan to add amplifiers or a subwoofer.
