Davis Instruments Mooring Snubbers
Davis Instruments Shockles™ Mooring Snubbers: Smarter Shock Absorption at the Dock
When a passing wake, tidal surge, or gust of wind sends a sudden jolt through your dock lines, the consequences can range from frayed line and bent cleats to jarring impacts that wake up everyone aboard. Davis Instruments — a marine and weather instrument innovator founded in 1963 — addresses this challenge head-on with their Shockles™ LineSnubber™, the flagship product in their mooring snubbers lineup.
What Sets the Davis Shockles LineSnubber Apart
The Davis Shockles LineSnubber isn't just a length of stretchy cord — it's an engineered system built around a patented progressive tension design. The progressive tension design means the further the LineSnubber stretches, the greater its return force — resulting in smooth action and moderated stress. That progressively increasing resistance prevents the violent rebound that plagues simpler elastic snubbers.
The construction details back up the engineering. The patented internal line limiter is made of 2,500 lb. (1,140 kg) test nylon webbing, while the LineSnubber's outer sheath is 3,500 lb. (1,590 kg) test tubular nylon webbing that is UV resistant to protect internal parts. Multiple loops of bungee material are wrapped inside a nylon sheath that protects from UV and abrasion. This layered approach means the snubber fights degradation from sun and saltwater exposure just as effectively as it fights shock loads.
Versatile Fit for Dock Lines, Anchor Lines, and More
The Shockles LineSnubber is a shock-absorbing solution most commonly used on dock lines or anchor lines, with one size fitting all line up to 3/4" (19 mm). Other uses include towing, boom preventers, boom tie-down, anchoring, and more. For larger lines, the snubber can be attached in-line using a simple clove hitch, or an optional pair of Line Grabbers (Davis #2460) can be added to fit all braided or twisted line up to 1" (25 mm) and beyond.
Tensions and loads on a dock or mooring change as tidal surges, wakes, winds, and currents change — and Shockles absorb those shock loads on mooring lines, making the lines last longer and putting an end to jarring and snapping at the end of the line. Shockles also safely absorb sudden shock loads, such as those at the end of a tow line or created by a dinghy tied on deck or suspended by davits at the stern.
Backed by Decades of Marine Expertise
Davis Instruments, established in 1963, is a recognized leader in developing and manufacturing precision weather, marine, and outdoor instrumentation. Over the subsequent decades, Davis has grown and expanded while maintaining focus on its original mission of creating high-quality, accessible products while proudly keeping all production in the United States. That same commitment to quality carries through to every Shockles product — Davis warrants products to be free of defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of original purchase.
