Bargman: Lighting and Electrical Connections for Trailers and RVs
Bargman is one of the best-known names in trailer and recreational vehicle lighting. Founded in 1931 to provide electrical connection products for the United States military, Bargman has since become the brand of choice in the light-duty trailer and recreational vehicle markets. Its parts connect the tow vehicle to the trailer and keep the trailer visible on the road.
A Heritage in Connectors and Lighting
Bargman's lighting and vehicle electrical connection products are used by commercial truck and light-duty trailer manufacturers, as well as in their aftermarkets. The brand is also known for assemblies that combine several connections, different wire lengths and mixed technologies. In-house over-molding and custom mold capabilities help the brand meet specific customer needs. The 7-way connector plugs and molded end connectors with attached cable are a good example of this approach. The Bargman 7-pin RV connector is common enough that owners often use the brand name as shorthand for the plug itself.
Tail Lights and Trailer Lighting
Tail lights are the most visible part of a trailer's lighting. Bargman's tail light assembly options cover the brake, turn and running functions that other drivers rely on. The wider range of trailer lights includes submersible kits sized for boat trailers, which are built to cope with repeated immersion at the ramp. Bargman's tail lights have also been fitted to RVs for decades. Vintage models such as the No. 99 are still restored by owners of classic trailers.
Clearance and Side Marker Lights
Clearance and marker lights outline the width and length of a trailer, which matters at night and in poor weather. Bargman offers both incandescent clearance and marker lights and LED clearance and marker lights. LED versions generally use less power and last longer than incandescent bulbs, while incandescent versions suit builders who want a traditional look or a simple bulb swap. Compact amber side markers with a base and connector are a typical choice for fitting along a trailer's sides.
Wiring Adapters and Connectors
A trailer's lights only work if the wiring between it and the tow vehicle is correct. A 4-way connector carries the basic lighting functions. A 7-way adds a 12-volt circuit and a feed for electric brakes, among other functions. Bargman's trailer wiring adapter connectors let you match the plug on your vehicle to the plug on your trailer, for example by converting a 6-way round pin to another style. Many of its 7-way connectors have molded bodies, which resist moisture and vibration better than screw-terminal plugs.
Beyond Lighting
Bargman also makes related towing hardware, including breakaway kits for trailers with electric brakes. Other trailer items include coupler brackets, weld-on jack mounts and screw kits for aluminum beds. These parts cover the structural side of a trailer build or repair.
Shopping Tips
- Check your tow vehicle's connector type (4-way, 6-way or 7-way) before ordering.
- Choose submersible lights for boat trailers that will be launched often.
- Match LED or incandescent lighting to your trailer's existing circuits and your upkeep preferences.
- Confirm the cable length of molded connectors for your trailer's tongue and layout.
