About Perko: Over a Century of American Marine Craftsmanship

Perko is one of the most storied names in the marine industry. Browse the full Perko catalog and you'll quickly understand why: this family-owned, Miami-based manufacturer has been building hardware that boaters trust since its founding in 1907 as F. Persky & Co. in Brooklyn, New York. What started as handcrafted navigation lights and ventilators fabricated from brass, copper, and galvanized steel has grown into a product line of more than 1,000 individual items — all rooted in the same hands-on craftsmanship that defined the company from day one.

The Perko trademark, registered in 1922, became synonymous with quality long before "quality assurance" was a buzzword. Today, the company holds an ISO 9001:2015 certification and remains one of the very few domestic marine manufacturers to produce die-cast bronze parts in-house — a process recognized across the industry for strength, uniformity, and long service life. Raw materials including sheet metal, aluminum, bronze, and zinc are sourced from American suppliers, and nearly all manufacturing — from chrome plating and CNC machining to injection molding and robotic grinding — is handled under one roof in North Miami, Florida.

What Perko Makes

Perko's catalog spans the full spectrum of marine hardware needs. Their masthead and all-around navigation lights remain a flagship product category, with both LED and incandescent options designed to meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements. For port and starboard visibility, Perko's side lights are a go-to for recreational and commercial boaters alike. On the electrical side, Perko's battery switches — including their iconic bronze selector switches — are found on vessels of all types and sizes.

Perko's deck hardware lineup is equally comprehensive. Their door latches combine functional reliability with classic marine aesthetics, crafted from materials that resist corrosion in harsh saltwater environments. And when it comes to refueling and fluid management, Perko's deck fills — available in EPA-compliant sealed configurations for gasoline, diesel, water, and waste — round out a complete onboard hardware solution.

Why Boaters Choose Perko

Made in the USA: Nearly all products are manufactured in North Miami, FL, with American-sourced raw materials.

Family heritage: Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, Perko brings continuity of quality to every product.

Breadth of catalog: From navigation lights and battery switches to latches, deck fills, searchlights, and fuel system components — one brand covers your whole boat.

Industry certifications: ISO 9001:2015 certified, reflecting a company-wide commitment to manufacturing excellence.

Proven track record: Trusted by OEM boatbuilders, commercial shipyards, and weekend boaters for well over a century.

Whether you're outfitting a new build, replacing aging hardware, or simply upgrading to LED lighting, Perko delivers the quality and reliability that serious mariners demand.

Product Details

The Perko 8504DP is a medium-duty battery selector switch designed for marine electrical systems, featuring an integrated locking mechanism and alternator field disconnect protection. This essential marine electrical component allows you to manage power distribution between multiple battery banks while protecting your alternator from damage.

Key Features:

 • Locking design prevents unauthorized switching while engine is running
 • Alternator field disconnect interrupts field current when switched to OFF position with engine running, protecting non-unitized alternators from damage
 • Durable polycarbonate body with brass terminals for corrosion resistance
 • Ignition protected design meets marine safety standards
 • Compatible with 6 to 32 volt marine electrical systems
 • 250 amp continuous capacity, 360 amp intermittent rating for 5 minutes

Specifications:

 • Mounting diameter: 5-1/4 inches
 • Panel depth behind mounting surface: 2-5/8 inches
 • Terminal stud size: 5/16 inch
 • Four position selector: OFF, Battery 1, BOTH, Battery 2

Ideal for boats with dual battery systems, this switch allows you to isolate batteries for starting, combine them for heavy loads, or disconnect all power when the vessel is not in use. The alternator field disconnect feature is particularly valuable for older marine charging systems with non-unitized alternators.

Searching for parts and ordering was quick and easy. All parts were in stock.

great price

Shipping is high but I need the product.

thanks hope it fits

Quick and easy thanks!

Autoplicty had the best price by far for a transmission. Fast shipping too!
UNFORTUNATELY...FED-EX beat the hell out of it! It was hanging out of the box when it arrived but was not damaged other than a few scrapes. Fed-Ex is not the best way to ship 140lbs...they can't lift it! Oh, and they can't comprehend "this side up" either!

Great company. Had part in stock ready to ship
