The Octopus OCTAF1212LAM12 is a hydraulic linear actuator designed to provide reliable autopilot steering control for boats equipped with mechanical steering systems. This complete assembly combines an Octopus reversing pump with a marine-grade hydraulic cylinder, mounting directly to the rudder tiller-arm or quadrant for efficient autopilot integration.

How It Works:

When the autopilot is disengaged, the cylinder moves freely with the rudder, allowing normal manual steering. Upon autopilot activation, an integrated solenoid valve closes and locks the cylinder in place. The DC motor then drives the reversing pump to extend and retract the cylinder based on steering signals from the autopilot computer. When de-energized, the solenoid valve instantly disconnects the autopilot from the rudder for immediate manual control.
