Teleflex 3300 Control Cables: Precision Push-Pull Performance on the Water
When it comes to marine throttle and shift control, few names carry the weight of Teleflex. Their lineup of 3300 Control Cables has become the industry benchmark for boaters who demand crisp, reliable response from their engine controls — whether they're running a small outboard on a bass boat or a twin-station inboard cruiser.
The TFXtreme Difference
At the heart of Teleflex's premium 3300 offering is the TFXtreme technology. Traditional push-pull cables have always forced a compromise: a stiffer, tighter-fitting core reduces lost motion but becomes progressively harder to move in long or complex routings, while a looser, more flexible core is easier to push but results in a sloppy, imprecise feel. Teleflex's engineers solved this with a fundamentally different approach.
The TFXtreme cable features a patent-pending splined core — a profiled design whose ridges allow a close fit with the cable's inner liner while maintaining only minimal contact points. The result, as described in Teleflex's own documentation, is a cable that "unique design incorporates a patent-pending splined core with minimal contact point," where ridges on the core allow a close fit with the cable's inner liner, but with minimum contact, so the core glides back and forth smoothly — delivering unparalleled smoothness and efficiency even in the longest and most complex cable routings.
The cable is constructed largely with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material for hard abrasion resistance and high resistance to water penetration, while offering a low coefficient of friction. The liner is lubed for life, meaning there is no routine maintenance required to keep these cables operating smoothly in the harsh marine environment.
Three Performance Tiers for Every Application
Teleflex offers three performance grades in the 3300 series — Standard, Midrange, and Premium — and all three meet or exceed industry requirements. This tiered approach gives boaters the flexibility to match the cable spec to their actual use case:
- Standard 3300 Cables: Suitable for most applications with short, simple cable routings, especially runs in which some degree of cable friction is desirable for correct operation of the control. Standard cables use stainless steel Lubri-Core wire for smooth operation and long life, with stainless steel core wire and brass fittings with 10-32 UNF threads.
- TFXtreme Premium Cables: The best choice for long runs, twin stations, or difficult routings with multiple bends. When mechanical controls are used in two stations, TFXtreme cables are specifically designed to work smoothly in twin-station applications — and when combined with compatible controls, these cables give superior smoothness and response with very little backlash, enabling high-quality synchronization of control head lever position and feel at each station.
Universal Compatibility with Major Engine Brands
This versatile 3300CC series is applicable for virtually all throttle applications and most transmission/shift applications, and is the only Teleflex cable available in any length from 3 ft upward. Universal 3300CC cables are designed to fit aftermarket engine controls as well as OEM units from Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Yamaha, and other controls and engines with a 10-32 threaded connection on both ends.
The 3300CC series replaces the old Morse 33C and 33C Supreme red jacket cables, making them a direct go-to upgrade for anyone maintaining or restoring an older vessel. These cables meet and exceed all industry standards, certification requirements, and OEM specifications for fit, function, reliability, and quality.
Selecting the Right Cable Length
Choosing the correct cable length is critical — measuring your existing cable before ordering is strongly recommended. Universal cables are designed to fit aftermarket engine controls as well as OEM controls for many sterndrives, inboards, and outboards. With 89 products in the Teleflex 3300 Control Cable lineup, there's a precise-length option for virtually every boat configuration.
