Danforth Anchors trace their origins back to 1939, when American inventor Richard Danforth engineered a lightweight, high-efficiency fluke anchor originally designed for use aboard World War II landing craft. The Danforth Fluke Design: How It Works
The hallmark of any genuine Danforth anchor is its twin-fluke geometry. Two large triangular flat flukes are attached to a crown-mounted stock, and the hinged design allows those flukes to orient toward the seabed at a 32-degree angle — the angle widely regarded as optimal for maximum holding power in common sea bottoms like hard sand and mud. Angled tripping palms at the crown assist the flukes in digging in quickly, while the long stock keeps the anchor lying flat so both flukes bite simultaneously. The result is a low-profile anchor that stows neatly on bow rollers or in anchor lockers, making it equally practical as a primary hook or a ready-to-deploy secondary anchor.

- Danforth Standard: The original production workhorse. The shank is made from high-strength steel, and every anchor leaves the factory with a hot-dip galvanized coating that bonds zinc directly to the steel for long-lasting corrosion resistance in saltwater environments. The Standard line is available in a wide range of weights to suit small runabouts through larger cruising vessels.
- Danforth Hi-Tensile: Engineered for boaters who demand more. The Hi-Tensile uses high-tensile 4130 steel that is heat-treated after fabrication, significantly increasing strength and holding power over the Standard models. The flukes are beveled to promote quicker, deeper bottom penetration, and every anchor is finished with the same hot-dip galvanization as the Standard line.
