Barr Marine Exhaust Manifolds, Risers and Elbows
Barr Marine has been building marine exhaust components since 1933, when Horatio W. Barraclough, Sr. founded the business under the name Marine Salvage. Among its first products were replacement exhaust manifolds for converted Model A Ford and Pierce Arrow engines, and exhaust hardware has remained the company's core ever since. The Barr Marine Manifolds/Risers/Elbows selection reflects that long focus: parts designed to replace worn or corroded originals on inboard and sterndrive engines.
Direct-Fit Replacements for Popular Marine Engines
Barr's exhaust parts are engineered as replacements for factory components. Barr produces direct replacement exhaust parts for Crusader, MerCruiser, OMC and Volvo Penta engines, and most are direct replacements for factory originals that don't require adapters or brackets. The range includes log-style manifolds, center-rise manifolds and risers, swivel elbows, and Chrysler, Ford and GM-based applications. For example, the OMC 140 3.0L manifold is a log-style unit that includes plugs, gaskets and mounting hardware to the head, which saves hunting down small parts mid-repair.
Center Riser Designs and Swivel Elbows
One of Barr's signature designs is the Center Riser. It is a two-piece aluminum manifold and riser suited to replacement use where riser protection is required. It is designed to limit back pressure on the engine, supporting more efficient performance. The manifold and riser can be reversed to fit either side of the engine. Because it is cast of 356 T6 aluminum, it is well suited to fresh water applications, so owners running in salt water should consider the iron options instead.
Elbows are equally practical. Barr's cast iron elbows can swivel inboard or outboard to line up with the exhaust run, and bolt-on elbow adaptors are offered in 30 and 90 degree configurations. These kits include the adaptor, hose and clamps for 3" I.D. exhaust hose, with a larger 90 degree version for bigger hose sizes.
What Sets Barr Apart
- U.S. manufacturing: Barr describes itself as the last and only U.S. manufacturer of inboard parts in the world.
- Leak-resistant castings: Every casting is pressurized with an impregnant solution that adheres to the internal walls for longer product life.
- Color-matched finish: Barr paints replacement components to match original manufacturer colors.
- Warranty: Barr originated the now-standard three-year limited warranty on its exhaust manifolds, risers and connectors.
Choosing the Right Part
Match the part to your engine make, cylinder count and displacement, and confirm whether your system uses raw water or fresh water cooling, since gaskets and mounting packages differ between the two. Check the exhaust hose inside diameter before choosing an elbow adaptor, and replace gaskets and mounting hardware whenever a manifold or riser comes off. Cracked or corroded exhaust parts can allow water into the engine, so timely replacement protects the whole powerplant.
