Factor 55 Shackles
Why Factor 55 Shackles Stand Apart in Off-Road Recovery
When a recovery goes wrong, the weakest link in your rigging becomes the most important one. Factor 55 was built around the idea that off-road recovery hardware deserves the same rigorous engineering discipline applied to aerospace and defense systems. Founded in Boise, Idaho, the brand draws on staff with decades of experience in those high-stakes industries — and every shackle they produce reflects that standard. A Shackle for Every Recovery Scenario
Factor 55's shackle lineup covers three distinct product families, each engineered for a specific role in the field.
- Standard Duty Soft Shackles — Constructed of 7/16" diameter UHMWPE 12-strand rope, similar in construction to synthetic winch lines. They are lightweight yet exceptionally strong, and serve as a direct replacement for conventional steel screw-pin shackles in many rigging applications. Each unit is serialized for manufacturing date and material lot traceability — a level of accountability rare in the off-road aftermarket.
- Extreme Duty Soft Shackles — Stepping up the demands of the trail, the Extreme Duty variant is built from HMPE Plasma rope featuring a woven polyester jacket coated with Fiber Lock for added abrasion and UV protection. With a minimum breaking strength of 43,500 lbs, it is rated for vehicles up to 8,500 lbs GVW.
- Crossbeam Shackle — A precision-machined billet aluminum shackle that attaches to a bumper's eyelet via a pin and snap ring for a semi-permanent mounting configuration. Its unique crossbeam design keeps the legs of the shackle from spreading under sideload, and laser-engraved angle charts with clearly marked working load limits (at a 5:1 safety factor) take the guesswork out of safe rigging. Available in eight colors to match your existing Factor 55 gear.
For those who need serious pulling capacity, Factor 55 also partners with the Crosby Group to supply forged steel hard shackles — addressing the off-road market's shortage of USA-made steel options. The 3/4" Crosby Shackle suits most trucks and SUVs, while the 7/8" variant is sized for larger trucks and industrial use.
Closed System Winching® Compatibility
What truly sets Factor 55 shackles apart is their integration into the brand's patented Closed System Winching® philosophy — a rigging technique that uses hardware comprised entirely of closed-link connections. Common winch hooks rely on sheet-metal safety latches prone to failure under load shifts, but closed-link shackles eliminate that vulnerability entirely. Both soft and hard shackle options in the Factor 55 lineup are compatible with this system, giving off-roaders, overlanders, and first responders an end-to-end recovery solution built on sound engineering principles.
USA-Made Quality, Lab- and Field-Tested
Every Factor 55 shackle — soft or hard — is made in the USA and undergoes both laboratory and field testing to confirm consistent, repeatable minimum breaking strength values. Product tags clearly communicate working load limits, material specifications, and individual serial numbers, so you always know exactly what your rigging can handle before the pull begins.
