Dometic Air Conditioning: Built for Life on the Move
When it comes to climate control for RVs, boats, and specialty vehicles, few names carry more weight than Dometic. Their air conditioning lineup is the product of decades of engineering specifically focused on mobile and marine environments — places where standard residential AC units simply weren't designed to survive. Whether you're baking in the Arizona desert in a Class A motorhome or anchored offshore on a warm summer afternoon, Dometic has engineered a solution to keep you comfortable.
A Deep Portfolio of Product Lines
Popular product families include the Brisk II, Penguin II, and FreshJet series , each targeting different installation needs, vehicle sizes, and performance priorities. The Brisk II is widely regarded as a workhorse rooftop unit, available in 13,500 and 15,000 BTU configurations for both ducted and non-ducted applications. Built with stainless steel components and e-coated coils engineered for long-lasting performance in harsh outdoor environments, the Brisk II also integrates rubber bushings and EPP foam to minimize vibration and noise during operation.
The Penguin II is Dometic's answer for owners who need a low-profile solution. Sleek and aerodynamically designed, the Penguin II features a high-performance motor and fan that help reduce wind resistance — a meaningful advantage when highway fuel economy is on the line. It's available in cool-only and heat pump configurations across 11,000 and 15,000 BTU capacities.
The FreshJet series represents Dometic's most modern RV rooftop platform. At just 64 pounds, the FreshJet 3 is 14 percent lighter than previous models, requires up to 28 percent less refrigerant, and features e-coated evaporative coils for upgraded corrosion resistance. Dometic's custom blower system delivers 15 percent more even airflow and a 13 percent higher cooling capacity than comparable units, while operating at only 59.5 dB at its highest setting — roughly equivalent to a normal conversation. The newer FreshJet 5 builds on this with an available built-in heat pump and hard-start capability using the environmentally cleaner R32 refrigerant.
DC-Powered and Under-Bench Options
DC-powered models like the Dometic RTX series cater to truckers, overlanders, and off-grid adventurers, running directly off 12V or 24V battery systems for robust off-grid capability. For smaller rigs where rooftop real estate is at a premium, the Cool Cat blends cooling and heating in a compact under-bench design, with a heat pump system that offers year-round climate control without a rooftop installation.
Marine-Grade Climate Control
Dometic's dominance of the marine AC market is the result of more than 60 years of experience building units in America under the Cruisair and Marine Air brands. As a result, Dometic is the preferred marine air conditioning brand of almost all boat and yacht builders worldwide and counts with the world's largest certified dealer network for marine air conditioning systems. Marine offerings span self-contained units, split systems, and chiller configurations — complete climate systems available in a variety of capacities, all designed for fast and easy retrofitting.
Why Dometic Stands Out in Air Conditioning
- Broad BTU range: Compact campers and vans can utilize smaller units (7,000–13,500 BTU), while larger or poorly insulated vehicles benefit from higher BTU models at 15,000 BTU and above.
- Ducted & non-ducted flexibility: Whether you require a ducted or non-ducted installation, Dometic supports both configurations, allowing units to fit seamlessly into a wide variety of setups.
- Heating capability: Many Dometic RV air conditioners include a heating function , making them true four-season climate systems.
- Energy efficiency: Dometic units are designed to be energy-efficient using environmentally friendly refrigerants, helping reduce both energy costs and carbon footprint.
From weekend campers to full-time liveaboards, the depth and breadth of Dometic's air conditioning catalog means there's a solution precisely matched to your platform, power supply, and comfort expectations.
