Flow Rite Remote Drain Controls: Smarter Draining for Every Boater
Anyone who has wrestled with a traditional drain plug on a modern high-performance hull knows the frustration. Flow Rite — a Michigan-based marine fluid control specialist in the remote drain controls category — built its SeaLok and related product lines specifically to eliminate that problem. Whether you're launching at a busy ramp or pulling in after a long day on the water, Flow Rite's remote drain systems let you open or close your hull drain from the helm, the console, or any other convenient mounting point — no crouching, no contorting, no forgotten plug.
The SeaLok Remote Drain Plug System
The centerpiece of Flow Rite's remote drain lineup is the SeaLok Remote Drain Plug. It is an innovative solution for water drainage in boats, featuring a cable that runs from the plug to a convenient location on the boat's surface for quick access — and that cable can be extended or retracted as needed, allowing for customized positioning to fit different boat configurations. Made from durable materials, the SeaLok is resistant to corrosion and wear, and it features a simple installation process that requires no drilling or modification of the boat. It is compatible with most boats, and its compact size allows it to fit in tight spaces — with a unique design that provides a watertight seal to prevent water from leaking into the hull.
Built for freshwater and saltwater, SeaLok allows you to safely and conveniently control your drain plug from inside your boat with zero hassle. Installation requires just a 1" diameter mounting hole in a transom of 3/4" or less, silicone bedding is recommended but not required, and the actuator can be mounted wherever it is most convenient — such as near the helm or in a splashwell.
Actuators, Cables, and Service Components
Flow Rite's remote drain category goes beyond the plug itself. The Remote Drain Plug Actuator is the topside control knob that completes the system. It is compatible with most boat brands and models, allows you to drain the boat with the simple turn of a knob, is constructed from high-quality materials for durability and longevity, and comes with all necessary mounting hardware — controllable from the console or any preferred mounting location.
Connecting the actuator to the hull plug is Flow Rite's Marine Control Cable. It is constructed using high-strength stainless steel with a rugged, weather-resistant exterior jacket, and is available in various lengths for drain plug and livewell/baitwell operation. Cables are available in lengths from 6 to 17 feet, and each cable includes the brass attachment nut and quick disconnect locking retainer for attachment to the actuator.
For ongoing maintenance, Flow Rite also offers dedicated service kits. The Remote Drain Plug Service Kit is the solution for replacing damaged parts for the SeaLok, and includes a replacement drain plug, screws, and o-ring — all essential components for a successful repair. A separate Remote Drain Plug Housing Service Kit is also available for housing-level replacements, ensuring the long-term reliability of the system.
Why Flow Rite Stands Out in Remote Drain Controls
Established in 1981 in Michigan, Flow Rite Controls specializes in marine fluid control systems, and many of its products are unique and protected by numerous international patents. The drain plug housing uses a mesh design that prevents debris from causing problems, while glass-filled nylon makes the drain plug actuator tee handle exceptionally strong for trouble-free operation — and the plug and housing have been refined to deliver smooth, watertight performance. The result is a complete, purpose-built system — not a collection of generic parts — that covers every component from plug to console.
