Seachoice Butt Connectors: Marine-Grade Wiring You Can Trust
Electrical reliability on the water isn't optional — a failed connection can mean a dead bilge pump, a non-functioning navigation light, or worse. That's exactly the challenge that Seachoice has built its butt connectors to solve. As a brand founded in 1988 with deep roots in marine hardware, Seachoice applies the same exacting standards to its electrical line that boaters have come to expect across its broader catalog of over 6,000 marine parts and accessories.
Two Distinct Product Lines for Every Application
Seachoice offers two core styles of butt connectors, each optimized for different wiring scenarios aboard your vessel:
- Heat Shrink Butt Connectors (3-to-1 Shrink Ratio): These marine-grade heat-shrinkable butt splices feature a proprietary nylon/polyolefin tubing with a 3:1 shrink ratio and an adhesive lining. The adhesive inner wall creates a complete environmental seal once crimped and heated, locking out moisture, salt spray, and contaminants. The clear tubing also allows for visual wire inspection after the connection is made — a thoughtful detail that simplifies post-installation verification. A "Step Down" variant is also available, designed specifically for connecting different wire gauges.
- Brazed Non-Insulated Butt Connectors: For applications requiring a high-current, bare-metal connection, these connectors use a tin-plated brazed seam tube construction. The brazed seam resists splitting under crimping pressure, producing a stronger, more uniform barrel than standard rolled connectors. Available in a wide range of AWG sizes from #22-18 up through #2 AWG.
What Sets Seachoice Apart in the Butt Connector Category
Both product lines share a critical material specification: 99.9% pure copper construction. In a marine environment, conductivity and corrosion resistance are paramount, and pure copper delivers maximum electrical conductivity while the tin-plated finish on brazed connectors provides exceptional resistance to corrosion and oxidation — the two biggest enemies of any onboard wiring system.
Seachoice's heat shrink connectors take a "crimp-and-done" approach: simply insert the wire, crimp, and apply heat to complete a fully sealed, environmentally protected splice. No soldering, no additional sealing steps, and no guesswork. The 3:1 shrink ratio also means faster shrink times and improved abrasion resistance compared to standard 2:1 tubing.
Seachoice backs its entire product line with a no-hassle warranty — a direct reflection of the company's confidence in the durability and workmanship of its marine electrical components. Whether you're re-wiring an aging livewell pump, extending nav light circuits, or performing a full electrical overhaul, Seachoice butt connectors offer professional-grade performance without overcomplicating the installation process.
Color-Coded for Standard Marine Wire Gauges
Like all quality marine connectors, Seachoice butt connectors follow the industry-standard color coding system for quick, error-free identification at the bench:
- Red — 22–18 AWG (small gauge, instrument and accessory wiring)
- Blue — 16–14 AWG (medium gauge, lighting and accessory circuits)
- Yellow — 12–10 AWG (larger gauge, pumps and higher-current loads)
Assorted multi-gauge packs are also available for mixed repair kits or general onboard spares. For the full range of Seachoice electrical products, or to explore all brands in the butt connectors category, browse the links throughout this page.
