The DC voltage requirements of onboard equipment varies considerably. The demands of a bow thruster or winch are entirely different than that required by sensitive electronic equipment. Installing a DC-DC step-down converter allows you to supply stable, continuous nominal 13.6V output voltage to all your 12V components regardless of the demand upon your 24V power system.
