Foul-release coatings work by reducing the adhesion energy at the metal surface. PropGlide achieves this through a silicone polymer binder that cures to a glossy, ultra-low-friction finish. The Science Behind the Slick Surface
PropGlide's clear top coat uses a xylene-solvent silicone polymer that reaches touch-dry in approximately 45 minutes and hard-dry in 8 hours at 20°C. Once fully cured, the coating reduces friction at the metal surface so that the underwater gear sheds fouling under normal running conditions rather than accumulating it. Clean running gear means the engine works less hard, burns less fuel, and maintains smoother operation — eliminating the vibrations that can develop when propeller blades become unevenly fouled.
