3M Stikit™ Disc Pads
What Are 3M Stikit™ Disc Pads?
If you've ever wrestled with a sanding disc that refuses to stay put — or one that leaves sticky residue on your backup pad when you pull it off — the 3M Stikit™ Disc Pad system was built to solve exactly those frustrations. These backup pads serve as the foundation of the Stikit™ ecosystem, holding abrasive discs firmly against the work surface while transferring the full power of your disc, random orbital, or rotary sander into each pass.
3M Stikit™ Disc Pads use a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) attachment method. The Stikit™ system was designed for convenient changes between abrasive grades or applications — abrasives come ready to use with a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on the backside, so attaching them to the pad is as simple as pressing on a sticker. And when you're ready to move to the next grit, they remove cleanly without adhesive residue left on the backup pad surface. That means no wasted time scraping, no contaminated pads, and no interrupted workflow.
Why They Matter for RV & Marine Work
Surface preparation is one of the most critical — and most time-consuming — parts of maintaining an RV or watercraft. Whether you're feathering a gelcoat repair on a fiberglass hull, sanding body filler on an RV sidewall, stripping old paint, or prepping a surface for primer, the quality of your backup pad directly affects your results. Ideal for auto and marine body sanding applications, the pad's soft density foam with a 45° tapered edge closely conforms to contours and curves to deliver a uniform finish and minimize rework.
The variety of pad profiles available makes it easy to match the right pad to the right task. The Low Profile model is the most aggressive and is recommended for flat sanding operations and coarse grade abrasive products. The Standard Profile disc pad has a 45-degree tapered edge for flexibility, allowing the sanded area to be feather-edged or more easily blended — recommended for use with medium grade abrasive products. The Low Profile Finishing disc pad provides the best finish and is the least aggressive, suitable for flat or contoured surfaces with finer grade abrasives.
Dust-Free Options for a Cleaner Finish
Dust loading is the enemy of both abrasive life and finish quality. Stikit™ Disc Pads are available in dust-free versions for cleaner air and finer finishing results. Abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't loading the cutting surface. These pads are part of the dust-management system, featuring the same multi-hole pattern in both the abrasive disc and the pad, enabling dust extraction when used with self-generated vacuum or central vacuum tools. For enclosed spaces like RV interiors or below-deck marine areas, this dust management capability is especially valuable.
Pad Construction & Sander Compatibility
3M Stikit™ Disc Pads hold Stikit discs for use with disc, random orbital, and rotary sanders. They feature a tough vinyl face that provides excellent disc adhesion yet allows quick, easy disc removal. A variety of lightweight, shock-resistant pads are available in 3-, 5-, and 6-inch diameters. For hand-sanding tight areas, curves, and detailed edgework on boats or RVs, disc hand pads distribute pressure evenly across the work surface, with soft and medium density options providing excellent conformability for edgework and contours.
The Brand Behind the System
When it comes to abrasive technology, 3M is the definitive name in the Stikit™ category — because they invented it. 3M has been helping keep watercraft of all types at their best for more than 50 years, and their Stikit™ disc pad lineup reflects decades of refinement for exactly the kind of demanding surface work that RV owners and marine professionals face every day.
