Bearing Buddy
About Bearing Buddy
Few names in the trailer industry carry the track record of Genuine Bearing Buddy®. Born out of a real-world problem spotted on the open road, the brand has been protecting trailer wheel bearings since 1963 — and millions of hubs around the world are better off for it.
A Legacy Built on the Road
The story of Bearing Buddy begins in Saugus, California, where founders Bill Kampf and Denny Law launched the company under the name Aquappliances, Inc. Denny, who worked for a defense contractor in the Los Angeles area, noticed a recurring problem during his frequent drives between Los Angeles and Las Vegas: boat trailers broken down on the side of the road with failed wheel bearings. Recognizing a clear gap in the market, the two set to work developing a dedicated bearing protector for trailers. By 1975, production had moved to Patillas, Puerto Rico, where Bearing Buddy, Inc. has been manufacturing ever since.
The brand changed hands in 2004 when Carmen Rivas and Dan Jenkins — both long-time company veterans — took ownership with a shared commitment to upholding the Bearing Buddy legacy. Today, Bearing Buddy is a women-owned and minority-owned business, and its mission remains the same: to produce top-quality trailer products for worldwide distribution.
What Bearing Buddy Makes
Bearing Buddy's product lineup is focused and purposeful, addressing one of the most common causes of trailer breakdown — wheel bearing failure from water intrusion and inadequate lubrication. Their flagship Wheel Bearing Protectors press-fit into trailer hubs and use a spring-loaded piston system to maintain positive grease pressure, preventing moisture and road contaminants from entering the bearing cavity. Available in chrome-plated brass and stainless steel, they are engineered to fit a wide range of trailer hub bore diameters for boat, RV, snowmobile, ATV, horse, and utility trailers.
Complementing their bearing protectors, Bearing Buddy also offers Bra protective covers — vinyl dust and grease guards that slip over the installed protector to keep wheels clean and free of grease splatter during travel. Their Spindle Seal Kits provide a solution for damaged spindles that would otherwise require costly axle replacement, while their Grease Seals complete the hub protection system by keeping lubrication in and contaminants out at the inner bearing.
Why Trailer Owners Trust Bearing Buddy
The design philosophy behind Bearing Buddy is elegantly simple: keep grease in, keep water out, and make the process easy for the average trailer owner. The bearing protectors feature an automatic pressure relief mechanism so hubs cannot be over-pressurized during greasing — excess lubricant simply escapes rather than blowing out seals. Products are proven across billions of miles of service and are constructed to last the life of a trailer. Whether you're launching a boat, hauling horses, or towing a camper across the country, Bearing Buddy gives you confidence that your bearings are protected every mile of the journey.
