The Quicksilver 8M0082485 is an OEM Platinum Plus Generation I throttle and shift control cable measuring 12 feet in length, designed as a direct replacement for Mercury Marine and MerCruiser outboard and sterndrive applications. Built to exacting Mercury Marine specifications, this cable delivers reliable, precise throttle and shift control in demanding marine environments.

Construction & Durability:

  • 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit with larger-diameter construction for added strength and rigidity
  • Stainless steel armor wrap over stranded wire core for superior corrosion resistance
  • Polypropylene outer jacket is UV-resistant and abrasion-resistant
  • Sealed lubrication system with lubricated core liner keeps the cable operating smoothly without maintenance
  • Nickel-plated brass end fittings resist corrosion in harsh saltwater and freshwater environments
  • Rated for all-weather performance, including temperatures below 0°F

High-Efficiency Core Design:

  • Layered technology construction provides a smooth, low-effort operation at the helm
  • High-efficiency inner core reduces shift effort and improves throttle response
  • Generation I (Gen I) end connections — compatible with Mercury Gen I control boxes

Sizing & Installation Notes:

  • Length: 12 feet — measure the unobstructed cable route from control to engine throttle/shift attachment point; add 18 inches for outboard installations
  • For replacement: measure the old cable tip-to-tip and subtract 7 inches to confirm the correct length
  • Installs with common hand tools; remove old cable and route new cable in reverse order
  • Do not lubricate the core. Avoid tight or sharp bends during installation.

When to Replace Your Cable:

  • Excessive free play or stiffness felt at the helm control
  • Visible chafing, kinking, broken sections, or loose end fittings
  • Note: throttle and shift cables cannot be repaired — replacement is required
