The Quicksilver 8M0082483 is a Platinum Plus Generation I throttle and shift control cable measuring 10 feet in length, designed as a direct OEM replacement for Mercury Marine and Mariner outboard installations. Built with a layered technology construction, this cable delivers smooth, precise throttle and shift control even in the most demanding marine environments.
The Platinum Plus series features a larger-diameter cable body with a 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for exceptional strength and durability. A UV- and abrasion-resistant polypropylene outer jacket protects against the elements, while the lubricated core liner surrounding a stainless steel inner core ensures long-lasting flexibility and corrosion resistance in harsh saltwater and freshwater conditions. Nickel-plated fittings and a sealed lubrication system further guard against marine corrosion.
Key Features:
- Generation I connection type — compatible with Gen I Mercury Marine remote controls
- 10 feet (120 inches) in length — sold individually; two cables required per control station
- Rated for maximum performance in all weather conditions, including temperatures below 0°F
- 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for added compression strength and durability
- UV- and abrasion-resistant polypropylene outer jacket
- Lubricated core liner with stainless steel core resists corrosion and maintains flexibility
- Nickel-plated fittings with sealed lubrication system
- High-efficiency inner core design for smooth, low-effort shifting and throttle response
- Installs using common hand tools — no special equipment required
Sizing Guidance: To determine the correct cable length for a new installation, measure the cable path from the control to the engine throttle/shift attachment point along the unobstructed route and add 18 inches for outboard applications. When replacing an existing cable, measure the old cable tip-to-tip and subtract 7 inches. Alternatively, reference the length and part number printed on your current cable.
When to Replace: Replace the throttle and shift cable when excessive free play or stiffness is felt at the control handle, or when chafed, broken, bent, or loose components are visible. Throttle and shift cables cannot be repaired — only replaced. Do not lubricate the core wire, and avoid tight or sharp bends during installation.
