The Quicksilver 8M0082486 is a 13-foot Platinum Plus Generation I throttle and shift cable designed as a direct OEM replacement for Mercury Marine mechanical control systems. Built to withstand the harshest marine environments, this cable delivers smooth, reliable throttle and shift operation in all weather conditions, including temperatures below 0°F.
Engineered with a layered technology construction, the cable features a UV- and abrasion-resistant polypropylene outer jacket surrounding a 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for added strength and durability. A sealed lubrication system with a lubricated core liner surrounds the stainless steel core, keeping the cable flexible and corrosion-resistant in harsh saltwater and freshwater environments. Nickel-plated fittings provide additional protection against marine corrosion.

Sizing and Replacement Guidance:
To determine the correct cable length for a new installation, measure the path from the control to the engine throttle/shift attachment point along the unobstructed cable route. Add 18 inches for outboard installations. For replacement, read the length and part number printed on your existing cable, or measure the old cable tip-to-tip and subtract 7 inches.
Replace your throttle and shift cable when you notice excessive free play or stiffness at the control, or when you observe chafed, broken, bent, or loose components. Note: Throttle and shift cables cannot be repaired — only replaced. Do not lubricate the core, and avoid tight or sharp bends during installation.
