The Quicksilver 8M0082489 is a genuine OEM Platinum Plus Generation I throttle and shift cable measuring 16 feet in length. Engineered by Mercury Marine for long-lasting reliability, this cable is built to deliver smooth, precise throttle and shift control in demanding marine environments.
The Platinum Plus series features a layered technology construction designed for maximum performance across all weather conditions, including temperatures below 0°F. A UV- and abrasion-resistant polypropylene outer jacket protects against the elements, while a lubricated core liner surrounding a stainless steel core resists the harsh marine environment while maintaining flexibility. The larger-diameter cable body includes a 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for enhanced strength and durability, and nickel-plated fittings with a sealed lubrication system provide superior corrosion resistance.

Sizing Tips: To determine cable length for a new installation, measure the path from the control to the engine throttle/shift attachment point along the unobstructed cable route, then add 18 inches for outboard applications. For replacements, measure the existing cable tip to tip and subtract 7 inches. You can also confirm the correct length and connection type by reading the label on your existing cable.
When to Replace: Replace the throttle and shift cable when you notice excessive free play or stiffness at the control, or if the cable shows signs of chafing, bending, breakage, or loose components. Throttle and shift cables cannot be repaired — only replaced. Replacement can be completed with common tools by removing the old cable and installing the new cable in reverse order.
