Metro Marine Underwater Lights: Engineering That Solves Real Problems
When it comes to underwater lights, most boaters and marina operators face the same frustrating story: fixtures that cloud over with marine growth, corrode from the inside out, and fail long before their time. Metro Marine was built specifically to fix that. Metro Marine has been designing and manufacturing LED lighting systems for over 20 years — both for above and below the water — but it's their underwater line where the brand's engineering philosophy truly shines.
Patented Technology That Sets Metro Marine Apart
Biofouling and condensation are the two most critical issues causing underwater lighting fixtures to fail. Metro Marine is one of the very few manufacturers to have developed patented solutions to both problems simultaneously.
By integrating ultraviolet C (UVC) light rays commonly used in water purification systems to kill bacteria and prevent buildup into a compact LED form, Metro Marine crafted the industry's first underwater lighting fixture impervious to marine growth, in all water types and temperatures. This technology is marketed under the brand's patented SeaBeam™ technology, which keeps the lenses on Metro's fixtures crystal clear and free of biofouling.
While implementing a new Class 1000 clean room in the production process led to a reduction in condensation, Metro Marine engineers went a step further to create a new patented dry gas assembly, similar to those found in the aerospace and medical industries, to completely remove all condensation from the fixtures and remove the potential for corrosion during normal use.
The F-Series: Full Spectrum Performance
Metro Marine's flagship product line for underwater illumination is the F-Series. Building on Metro Marine's legacy of innovation and market leadership in optics and LED control technology, the F-Series underwater lighting fixtures introduce a unique LED array to the market with 72 high-output LEDs per fixture, allowing for close adjacent fixture placement where fully-mixed, uniform light is important.
To create higher-quality whites and even richer color blends than ever possible with traditional RGBW offerings, the F-Series RGBW luminaires integrate a separate white LED in each of the 18 individually optically lensed RGBW LED configurations. With true precision optical lensing combined with full spectrum color using Nichia's state-of-the-art LEDs, the colors are richer and more vibrant, lighting the water better.
The F-Series line of underwater marine lighting fixtures is designed to be mounted at a depth of up to 4.6M (15') below the water's surface, and with watertight aluminum bronze housings and silicon bronze hardware, F-Series luminaires are perfect for marine-based applications such as mounting to yachts, docks, sea walls, as well as for use in fountains and theme park installations.
Beam Angles and Product Options
Metro Marine's underwater lineup covers a wide range of use cases. Utilizing precision optical lensing, Metro Marine offers both 45° and 90° beam angles, so boaters can dial in exactly the right spread for their hull size or dock configuration. Product options include high-output elongated and round form factors, available in RGBW Full Spectrum configurations for vibrant color-changing effects, as well as intelligent monochromatic options — such as green — ideal for attracting baitfish and enhancing visibility around the waterline. The flagship round and elongated RGBW LED luminaires offer 90-degree optical lensing for lighting mid- to large-scale structures and yachts ranging from 32 feet (10 m) to 100 feet (30 m).
Metro Marine's F-Series Full Spectrum Underwater Lights join the company's extensive lineup of underwater lighting fixtures, all featuring the anti-biofouling and anti-condensation technologies, as well as a series of accessories including lighting controllers, wiring and mounts.
Whether you're outfitting a center console, a superyacht, or a commercial marina, Metro Marine's underwater lighting solutions represent one of the most technically advanced choices in the category today. Explore the full selection of Metro Marine underwater lights above.
