B & S Anodes: A Legacy of Hand-Poured Zinc Protection
When it comes to defending your boat from the relentless threat of galvanic corrosion, few names carry the credibility of B & S Anodes. The roots of B & S reach back to the 1960s, when the original founders of Bossler & Sweezey began pouring zinc anodes in the winter months — a time when there were only a literal handful of zinc anode manufacturers in existence. As the business grew and zinc sales increased year-round, it was decided in 2005 to make B&S Marine Anodes a separate company dedicated exclusively to manufacturing zinc anodes.
What Makes B & S Zincs Different
The centerpiece of B & S Anodes' reputation is their unwavering commitment to hand-poured manufacturing. Their zinc anodes are crafted from a zinc alloy that meets Military Specification MIL-A-18001K, and every anode is hand-poured — a process that results in a higher degree of porosity than anodes produced by die casting. In hand-poured zinc anodes, size for size, there is a greater surface area exposed to corrosion than in die-cast alternatives. The hot-chamber die-casting method also has a greater chance of picking up impurities, which can cause an insulation-like layer to build up on the anode's surface, causing it to perform poorly or not at all.
B & S Marine Anodes continuously analyzes industry needs and reviews new applications for zinc use, committed to keeping both pleasure and commercial craft protected with anodes that are hand-poured, easy to install, and long lasting.
The B & S Anodes Product Lineup
Browse the full Anodes/Zincs category and you'll find an extensive selection from B & S covering virtually every underwater application on a typical boat:
- Shaft & Collar Anodes: Streamline shaft collar zincs such as the BSM1SL meet Federal Specification Mil-A-18001K and are supplied with stainless steel Allen-head bolts for mounting.
- Pencil Anodes: Pencil zinc anodes like the BSMPZ12O are designed for heat exchangers and engine cooling systems, available in multiple thread and diameter sizes.
- Rudder & Trim Tab Anodes: Rudder button anodes such as the BSM3RB provide targeted protection for rudder hardware, while trim tab kits guard the control surfaces that see constant water flow.
- Hull Plate Anodes: Zinc hull plates in single- and multi-hole configurations mount flush to the hull to protect the vessel's underwater body from galvanic attack.
- Strainer Anodes: The BSMBSSTRAINER zinc strainer anode fits South Bay Type external strainers, mounted over the intake on the bottom of the boat.
- Outboard & Sterndrive Kits: Complete kits pack everything needed to protect critical Mercury and MerCruiser parts from corrosion, all in one convenient package. The Bravo I Zinc Anode Kit is one example, including all hardware for a full sterndrive service.
Ideal for Saltwater and Brackish Water Boaters
B & S zinc anodes are specifically suited for saltwater applications, combining effective corrosion protection and long-lasting durability — reducing maintenance costs and making them a strong choice for saltwater boaters. All zincs are made right here in the USA. Whether you operate a center console in coastal inlets, a cruiser in open ocean, or a commercial vessel in a working harbor, B & S Anodes delivers the mil-spec zinc protection your investment deserves.
