When it comes to epoxy adhesives engineered for the harshest environments, Marine Tex stands in a class of its own. Marine Tex is the legendary high-strength repair compound designed for filling, bonding and rebuilding wood, fiberglass, ceramic, glass, metal, masonry and many plastics. While the brand's roots lie in marine applications, these structural epoxies have earned widespread trust across automotive, industrial, and household repair scenarios where waterproof, chemical-resistant bonds are non-negotiable.
Marine Tex Epoxy Putty Systems
When mixed, Marine-Tex is a thick, creamy, no-sag putty that is easily applied to most surfaces. This unique consistency sets Marine Tex epoxy adhesives apart in the category—the paste-like formulation allows application on vertical or horizontal surfaces without sagging or dripping, making it ideal for awkward repair angles and gap-filling applications. With Marine-Tex, you can repair a damaged hull, reinstall loose or stripped fasteners, permanently bond dissimilar metals without galvanic corrosion, fix leaks in fuel tanks, water tanks (it's not rated for potable water repairs), piping and engine blocks, plus fill gouges in wood, metal, fiberglass and gelcoat.
Marine Tex offers its epoxy adhesives in two primary formulations: Gray and White. Compressive Strength*: Gray – 13,000 PSI (910 Kg/Cm2) White – 8,700 PSI (610 Kg/Cm2) Adhesion Shear Strength*: Gray – 1,800 PSI (126 Kg/Cm2) White – 2,300 PSI (160 Kg/Cm2) The Gray formula is recommended for machinery and metal repairs where maximum compressive strength matters, while the White version excels in fiberglass applications and situations where color-matching to gelcoat or painted surfaces is important.
Chemical Resistance and Environmental Durability
It is resistant to water, gasoline, diesel and many chemicals like common acids, alkalies and hydrocarbons. This exceptional chemical resistance makes Marine Tex epoxy adhesives invaluable not just for marine repairs, but for automotive fuel system work, industrial equipment maintenance, and anywhere exposure to solvents and petroleum products is expected. Marine-Tex is also an excellent choice for repairing problem areas located below the waterline. The fully waterproof cure ensures permanent bonds even in continuously submerged conditions.
Working Characteristics and Application
Marine-Tex is a high-strength structural epoxy, designed for convenient proportioning and mixing — by volume — in a ratio of 5 parts epoxy resin to 1 part catalyst/hardener. Pot Life (Working Time): At 72F, 30 minutes if mixed and spread thin across mixing board. (A lump of material, or higher temperatures, may generate a 15 – 20 minute working time due to the heat the epoxy creates within itself.) Once cured, Marine-Tex can be sanded or ground to shape, tapped and drilled, and finished with most common paints and coatings. This machinability makes Marine Tex epoxy adhesives functional repair materials rather than just cosmetic patches.
For faster turnaround scenarios, Marine Tex also produces a Rapid-Set variant that delivers accelerated cure times for emergency repairs. Whether you're bonding aluminum panels, sealing machinery components, rebuilding stripped threads, or filling structural voids, Marine Tex epoxy adhesives provide the strength, versatility, and environmental resilience that serious repair work demands.
