Balmar Voltage Regulators
Balmar Voltage Regulators: Precision Marine Charging Control
When it comes to optimizing marine battery charging systems, Balmar has built a reputation for engineering voltage regulators that transform how vessels manage their electrical needs. Specializing in both multi-stage and single-stage regulators, Balmar's voltage regulator lineup is designed specifically for the demanding conditions of marine applications, where reliable power management can make the difference between an enjoyable voyage and a stranded vessel.
Multi-Stage Intelligence for Optimal Battery Care
The ARS-5 Multi-Stage Voltage Regulator features the latest multi-stage control for multiple battery types, along with an easy, basic method of programming that enables you to select the proper power limits based on alternator output and belt width, providing optimal charging control for your batteries. This intelligent approach addresses a critical challenge in marine electrical systems: without proper voltage regulation, battery charging can be a slow process, or even worse, an ideal recipe for early battery failure.
Balmar's flagship Max Charge MC-618 takes this technology further with 9 selectable programs for marine batteries (including LiFePO4), 15 amp maximum field current, advanced programming modes, alternator and battery temperature sensing and control, and an exclusive Belt Load Manager function. The integration capability with SG200 displays and twin-engine applications makes these regulators particularly versatile for complex marine installations.
Smart Ready® Technology and Application Flexibility
All Balmar's high-output alternators are designed and recommended for use with their multi-stage voltage regulators, with the 6-Series Alternator utilizing Balmar's Smart Ready® Technology. This proprietary system allows alternators to function with either internal regulation for simpler applications or seamlessly integrate with external regulators like the ARS-5 for more demanding charging scenarios—particularly valuable for vessels with larger deep-cycle battery banks or less frequent engine duty cycles common in sailing applications.
Temperature Compensation and Adaptive Charging
Balmar Regulators have the ability to automatically correct charging output to ensure that batteries are properly charged regardless of ambient temperature. This temperature compensation feature protects both alternators and batteries from the heat generated during extended high-output charging cycles, extending component life while maintaining charging efficiency. For vessels with nominal battery loads or short charging windows, Balmar also offers single-stage regulators like the BRS-2T with adjustable target voltage to address different battery chemistries.
Whether you're cruising coastal waters or living at anchor, Balmar voltage regulators deliver the precision control needed to keep marine electrical systems operating at peak performance, ensuring batteries receive the optimal charge profile for longevity and reliability.
