Packing boxes, shaft seals, and accessories are among the most critical — and most overlooked — components on any inboard-powered boat. A packing box, also known as a stuffing box, stuffing gland, or packing gland, forms a seal between the propeller shaft and the hole in the hull through which the shaft passes, while allowing the shaft to turn freely. How Shaft Sealing Systems Work

While dripless seals require less routine adjustment, correct installation and periodic inspection remain essential to performance and safety.
