When dissimilar, electrically connected metals are immersed in an electrolyte — usually saltwater — an electro-chemical reaction occurs that begins to corrode one of the two metals, a process known as galvanic corrosion. This process, known as cathodic protection, ensures that the anode bears the brunt of corrosion, preserving the integrity of boat parts and significantly extending their lifespan.

When to Inspect and Replace Your Anodes

Anodes should be replaced when they are about 50% eroded, and regular inspections are essential, as factors like water pollution and stray electrical currents can accelerate corrosion.
