About Lewmar Marine

Lewmar is one of the most storied names in marine hardware, tracing its roots back to 1946 when Lewmar was founded by sailing aficionados Len Lewry and Leslie Marsh, originating from a passion for sailing and a need for superior gear. What began as a small operation producing Tufnol dinghy fittings has since grown into a global leader. Today, Lewmar is recognized as the world's leading manufacturer of winches, anchor windlasses, hatches, and marine deck hardware for sailing boats, yachts, and superyachts — with over 75 years of innovation behind every product.

Since 2019, Lewmar has been part of the Lippert Group, a global manufacturer of components for recreational vehicles and boats. This partnership has only deepened Lewmar's engineering capabilities while preserving the brand identity boaters have trusted for generations. Lewmar manufactures products primarily for sailboats, yachts, super-yachts, and mega-yachts, but also proudly serves the broader boating industry with OEM and aftermarket solutions for all types of boats.

A Legacy of Innovation and Awards

Lewmar hardware has equipped legendary vessels including Francis Chichester's Gipsy Moth IV during his solo circumnavigation in 1967, and has been chosen for America's Cup campaigns. That heritage of performance is more than marketing — it reflects decades of engineering discipline applied to every product line. Throughout its history, Lewmar has received several awards, including three Queen's Awards and two DAME Awards for outstanding product innovations.

Lewmar designs durable equipment for both recreational and commercial vessels, ensuring reliable performance in demanding marine environments. Whether you're a weekend angler, a bluewater cruiser, or a professional captain, there's a Lewmar product engineered for your needs.

What Lewmar Makes

Lewmar offers a full range of marine equipment: manual, electric, and hydraulic winches; anchor windlasses and capstans; anchoring systems; deck hardware and blocks; hatches; portlights; steering systems; and thrusters. That breadth of catalog means boaters can outfit an entire vessel from a single, trusted source. The complete Lewmar range is designed to suit any vessel, from the smallest recreational sailboat to the largest superyacht.

Among Lewmar's most popular product lines are their Shallow Water Anchor Systems, purpose-built for anglers and fishing enthusiasts who need quick, quiet boat positioning in skinny water. Complementing the anchoring ecosystem, Lewmar's Anchor Rodes are engineered to work hand-in-hand with their windlasses for seamless deployment and retrieval. For helm control, Lewmar's Steering Wheels bring the same build quality and marine-grade craftsmanship to the cockpit.

Why Boaters Trust Lewmar

Many Lewmar products, such as hatches and winches, come with clear installation guides for DIY installation, but complex systems like thrusters or hydraulic steering may require professional installation for best results. This flexibility makes Lewmar products accessible to both the hands-on boat owner and the professional installer alike. Lewmar stands behind its products, offering support and warranties that provide peace of mind. For anyone serious about spending time on the water, Lewmar represents a combination of heritage, innovation, and proven reliability that is hard to match.
